Not again. Final Fantasy XI was atrocious. At this rate the game wont see the light of day until 2027 anyway. Square just seems to make money out of what Final Fantasy once was these days.

I am a Final Fantasy nerd and to be honest I think Square Enix are becoming more of a joke as they go along. Just focus on the good old days of a final fantasy numbered 'sequel' every two or three years. No more over saturation of 7/10 spin offs and re-releases.

I don't mind spin offs as long as they are well made. Crisis Core for example is one of the best PSP games I've played. But then again on the other side of the scale you have Dirge of Cerberus.

The remakes aren't bad either, FF3 was a bit touch and go at parts but what I've played of the FF4 remake it's smashing. FF6 next please.

I do want them to bring out Versus before they focus on other games though. That game looks remarkable.

Right now Square seem to be aiming for having all these retro Final Fantasies on the Playstation, the PSP, the GBA, the DS ... I mean, where does it stop. Where do you stop cashing in at some point and say 'hey we better get this original content out to the fans quicker'.

I agree, I think a balance needs to be established between original and established content. Like you said, have a new numbered FF every 2-3 years. Then perhaps maybe have a remake or a spin off (If it's good and justified) to appease fans inbetween releases.

Maybe they're working their way up? They've only got two more SNES FF's left to do for the DS. Maybe After they've done that the oft-rumoured FF7 remake will go into production?

They released a trailer for FFXIII, an english one. There's also some new info. Each character has their own summon. Snow has Shiva, Lightning has Odin (I think), and the cutesy red haired girl has Carbuncle (I think). There's also a new possibly playable character in that trailer too, a silver haired chap.

Apparently during battles you can only control one character but I'm guessing you'll be able to switch which character you control at will.

I've just been reading up on the housing in this game, apparently we can build our own houses, and share them with our friends/Guild. These are the three planned towns, they will be instanced, so that when one town gets filled up, a new instance will open, so houses will be unlimited

I've been playing this a lot for the past two days, I'm playing a Hyur Midlander, as the Marauder Class. The city I started in is Limsa Lominsa, which looks beautiful.

The graphics on the PS3 arent as sharp as the PC, but they are a lot better than you might expect them to be. The armour is done really well for an MMO, as a lot of MMOs give you generic armour that begins to look the same. The Moogles act as the mail service in Eorzea, and the look cute as heck.

The main story so far seems very interesting, and the side quests are in depth too, I've not had chance to ride a chocobo just yet, but I've just reached level 10, which means I can now rent one. They've also added in Inns, where you can rent a room and sleep in it, obviously when you get a house, you'll likely be able to sleep in that instead.

The PS3 controls are really well thought out, my only complaint would be the targeting system is a bit fidgety sometimes, but its nothing that can't be sorted out with a bit of work.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has managed to smash the previous record of concurrent users for an open beta.

The record was initially broken yesterday, when Director Yoshida tweeted that the servers were undergoing some serious stress due to there being 120,000 concurrent users. Because of this, Square Enix has had to add two additional servers in Japan. These two servers are called Typhon and Ultima.

However, less than 24 hours later, Square Enix had to update fans by stating that they had broken the record again - this time by having 150,000 concurrent users.

Despite this huge influx of users, apparently not too many people are interested in playing tanks. In another tweet, Yoshida appealed to gamers to play some more of the supporting roles in order to help balance the experience. There are apparently not enough Marauders or Gladiators in Eorzea.

The previous record for concurrent users in an open beta was held by Phantasy Star Online 2. This saw 107,259 players online at the same time on the 24th of July.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn releases on both the PlayStation 3 and PC in a few weeks. There's also a version planned for the PS4, which will appear at a later date.

If you get the game, there's a month free time, I get why the game is subscription now, they plan to have major updates every three months. Also, I'd rather pay a sub for everything than to have microtransactions in game.

I've created a catperson character on one of the japanese servers to try out the game while I wait for Adamantoise and Phoenix to be unrestricted so I can create my real characters.

I've decided I'll play as a little guy Arcanist on the Phoenix Server and either a human or elf archer on the Adamantoise server.

The game was running perfectly this morning, the changes to the duty finder have seemingly sped up the process, as I only had to wait 30 mins for a dungeon group. The real test will be tonight, I'm hoping the servers have been updated enough to hold peak traffic, they most likely have been since they know the volume of traffic.

Before the fall of Dalamud, which would bring about the end of the Sixth Astral Era, a Bombard invasion set ablaze panic in the hearts and minds of the people, threatening to reduce our cities to smoldering rubble and ash. Thanks to a band of adventurers who unwittingly joined the Cascadiers, the igneous invaders were vanquished, and the realm was spared a fiery fate, or so reports had us believe.


There has been talk of sightings around Costa del Sol in eastern La Noscea. However, one must always be wary of the whispers of sailors. Ever wont to make sea hares into giant sea serpents and moat carp into mermaids, their wild fabrications have led many an adventurer to misfortune and abashment. Although these were but simple rumors, I would be remiss to overlook reports now coming in from all corners of the realm. Talk of Bombards has spread like wildfire, and for the first time in five years, the Adventurers' Guild has announced the return of the Moonfire Faire.


The Fallacious Festival Returns

Five long years have passed since the fall of Dalamud, and a new generation of adventurers has taken up arms in the absence of the Warriors of Light. But would they be so foolish as to run headlong into the proverbial oven that is the Moonfire Faire? There's no mistaking the Cascadier officers thronging the streets with their pamphlets, permeating the air with platitudes and empty promises. It may not be long before even you, dear reader, come face to face with these ardent recruiters.
Though times may change, the insatiable desire for exotic garments and gear shall ever persist among adventurers. A sense of yearning can be seen burning bright in their eyes at the mere mention of garbs they would receive in preparation for battle. The Adventurers' Guild is sure to entice adventurers to heed the call of the Cascadiers, but will it be enough? I can only hope the whimsical farce known as Moonfire Faire will both drive off this incendiary incursion and bolster our spirits.

I'm getting quite bored of being an Arcanist, It's great for day to day business but it's useless in Dungeons. I'm levelling up as a Conjurer for Dungeon and Duty business.

I've recently entered the Cortheas area of the game which is where Dalamud (http://gamerescape.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/dalamud.jpg) fell and the epic battle in the opening CG cinematic took place. The area is the first are to be seperate from the three Eorzean Alliance city states. Cortheas is part of Ishgard, a religeous city, and the gates to the city have been closed ever since Dalamud fell.

The cool thing about the zone is the much more serious tone and art style, as well as a more dramatic battle theme.

Own a PS4? Then you'll be pleased to know that Square Enix's Senior PR Manager David Yang, has confirmed that every single PS4 user will be granted access to the PS4 beta of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

That's right, you won't even have to register for an existing account for the game or not. This means that as soon as February 22 gets here, everyone will get into the beta right from the start.

To make this even more interesting, PlayStation Plus won’t be required to play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on PS4, so if you have a PS4 or will get one before February 22nd then the beta will be right there waiting for you.

Really didn't expect the game to evolve like this, I really like it, I'm used to MMO's like WoW, which seem to be very static (Stormwind looked like it had just been attacked 3 years after it had been attacked, in WoW), this is why I love XIV.

- Gun and Dagger class/jobs were both confirmed and coming sooner than people think. Apparently soon after 2.3. (He said we are saving this info for E3-Announcements, looking forward to June 10th!)

- The gun class isn't what people are expecting it to be.

- Frontlines are aiming to be in 2.3! (They made it seem like it was an 8v8v8, not confirmed though)

- Yoshi said Summoners will be getting Leviathan AND Ramuh pets, no mentioned when they would arrive.

- Gerolt's name in japanese is Gero, which literally means "barf", is getting a personal story to explain his rocky past where he was not such a nice person.

- Stitches in the moogle* are being removed because japanese players find them scary. (Was unclear if he meant the moogle pet or the moogle housing item)

- Housing Instruments if all played at the same time will play a memorable song.

Although reports circulated last year claiming that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will never be released for Xbox One or Xbox 360, Pocket-lint has found out otherwise.

Producer and director of the Japanese MMORPG Naoki Yoshida gave Xbox owners a glimmer of hope in a chat with us during the E3 trade show in Los Angeles. Through a Square Enix interpreter, Yoshida told us that the company is in talks with Microsoft over the restrictive Xbox Live rules that currently prevent massively multiplayer games from working across platforms. If successful, the game will be released for, at the very least, the Xbox One.

"We really want to do an Xbox One version," he said. "As a big Xbox player myself.

"The thing is, A Realm Reborn is all about cross-platform compatibility. Anybody from any platform can play together. We don't want to split our community into people who play on this platform or play on that one.

"So we're currently in talks with Microsoft, trying to convince them that this is what needs to happen."

Yoshida did not say how advanced the talks were, and Microsoft might yet still refuse to allow online gaming across platforms, but he did seem upbeat and positive about the prospect. Just don't expect an Xbox One version too soon, however.

Battleground battles will take place on Cartenau Flats, the area seen in 1.0's ending where Dalamud fell and Bahamut was released.

Maximum number of participants will be 3 teams of 24 players (24 x 24 x 24) for total of 72 players.

If DF matching process takes too long, system will automatically attempt to match 16 x 16 x 16 or 8 x 8 x 8 instead.

Lv50 required for participation. Item levels may be synced instead (e.g. ilvl 80/90 Frontlines) but the exact level has not yet been decided.

Battle will take place at the Carteneau Flats, the location of the final battle in 1.0. Each team will start at their outpost/HQ, which will serve as a staging area as well as respawn point.

You may switch jobs freely at your team's staging area (there is also no role restrictions when queuing for Frontline).

PvP skills may be used.

You are required to jump off a platform from your staging area to enter the battlefield, so once you're in, you cannot return to the staging area until you are defeated.

Battle time is limited to 30 minutes.

Basic rule is "Capture the Flag". Alliances earn points for defeating enemies but more point is earned for capturing 6 flags/outposts that exist in the battlefield.

As mentioned earlier, if you are defeated in battle, you will respawn at your alliance's home outpost/HQ.

You may ride your mounts in the battlefield.

Rewards come in the form of PvP points (same as Wolve's Den), unique mounts (such as a War Horse), as well as Soldiery Tomestones.

The Morale stat will have no effect in Frontline.

There will be monsters in the battlefield, which may affect the flow of battle.


Chocobo raising related


You will be able to add a chocobo stable (as a garden furniture item) to your housing, where you can train and care for your chocobo.

At this point, this feature is only available to those who have access to housing (FC housing), but it is planned to become accessible through chocobo porters in the future.

For now, only 1 chocobo (your buddy) can be trained at a time (per player?). This may increase in the future when contents like the Gold-something and the something-race is implemented.

It is possible to break through the Rank 10 limit to reach 11 and beyond. You may eventually be able to have a "super" chocobo with all skills learned.

You will be able to reset (respec) your chocobo's skills in 2.3. Will not require housing/stable for this.

Chocobo won't be "dyed" (since it's kind of animal abuse to dump a bucket of dye on them) but will "grow" new colored feathers instead. This will not be ready for 2.3 and is planned for 2.35. The colors will not have any direct effect on the chocobo's abilities. The selection of colors should be on par with the existing number of dyes out there right now.

It's somewhat easy to get used to with controller, once you master it though, it plays like a charm, I do recommend getting a cheap keyboard, just to communicate with.

The way the game levels you is very friendly to newcomers, it teaches you the basics without you generally realising it. For classes, DPS classes are the most easy to master (Thaumaturge, Archer, Arcanist, Summoner, Lancer). The game looks very nice on the PS4 too :D

It's going to take me yonks to learn the terminology but I'm one of the feral humanoid people, one of the ones that loves the moon. The moon goddess of love is my chosen deity. I basically just love the moon.

I'm trying to model the character on myself so as to make it as much of an immersive, saddo experience as possible. I'm an arcanist starting in that sea port gaf. I want to be a healer/summoner type character. Sort of a spacefaced shaman bum adventurer.

So a few updates ...

It seems like I've pretty much wrapped up most of the starting business in Limsa Lominsa. I know with a MMO it's always different and you can't expect an Elder Scrolls like level of micro detail but I do find the city quite disappointing insofar as it seems to act more like a hub than a place you're meant to explore. Take the Arcanist guild as an example. In my MMO virgin naivety I maybe thought "this will be a cool castle to explore with areas to practice spells, read books, sleep etc" but it's essentially just ... a counter with some people behind it where you go to receive instruction.

The rest of the game kicks ass though. The music is great, the outdoors are gorgeous, the controls are perfect and it really eases you in.

I've pretty much wrapped up most of the starting business in Limsa Lominsa now. I only got to play a few hours this week, see. I'm level 8 and I can't wait to go level 10 because it seems like that's where **** opens up a bit. My business has pretty much shifted on to Summerford Farms now where I've started doing jobs.

I've heard the game's main quest is completable pretty much as a solo experience but I hope in time to get more into the social element of the game because to me that's what sets an MMO apart. I'd love to do real saddo stuff like make in game friends who I chat and quest with regularly. I don't know do you join whatever open parties are around or what but I assume if I keep playing I'm going to be pushed in to it sooner or later.

The main storyline is okayish, it starts to heat up in the patches, joining a friendly FC who own a house is pretty cool, my current one have just moved from a shack to a decent sized house, its pretty awesome.

Next question : Why do so many people in this game have weird ass mythical names? Maybe it's just the way I'm seeing them on screen but virtually everyone on my server seems to have used some sort of Square Enix name generator and are all named Malus Ebonheart and **** like that.

Is it just because they're all MMO nerds and do this sort of thing? It still seems really disproportionate. I've seen a Danny Reilly knocking about in middle La Noscea and one or two daft gamertag like names but that's about it thus far.

Really getting in to it now. Closing in on level 15. Could only fit in a few big binges so far. Love gatting back a few pints of orange juice and blitzing a few duties and fates all at the same time.

Moving further and further out in to the world as well, going too far, and getting maimed is good fun. I ended up on a boat to Costa Del Sol the other day and thought I was on the other side of the world. Walked down the other side of it and I was back in lower la noscea. I love **** like that.

Then I figured I needed different armour sets or whatever so I backed off on it awhile. But when I get bored of whacking Dodos listening to the Steve Austin podcast I'll probably go back to Limsa to focus on it for awhile instead of getting into scraps.

I really regret not being an Elezen female. They look so badass. And I don't like focusing on more than one playthrough.

I can't believe a good 20 hours in I'm still bumbling around La Noscea. And not in an I suck kind of way. So much still to get stuck into.

That being said I just done the level 20 Arcane quest, the main story quest seems to be drying up till I do more miscellaneous stuff, and I'm getting a teensy bit sick of "go and kill the big ****off birds wrecking the old mans crops" missions to progress things.

It'll be interesting to see if the further immersion of this game can overpower my usually incredibly capricious nature of only having an interest in games for about two weeks. Even ones I really, really like.

There's about a week left on my subscription.

It uses hotkeys on L2 and R2. It's perfect. Everyone I know who plays on PC prefers using a controller for it, even.

As in ... the menu system it works on to use attacks is all instant on those two buttons. Hold R2, swipe right for whatever you assigned there etc. I've never experienced button congestion thus far.

I like the 2 second global cooldown on actions too, some MMO people say that it makes combat slower, but I find it better since you don't have to spam buttons.

The main story improves after the ending of the 2.0 main scenario too, though "A Realm Awoken" (2.1) isn't as good as "Through the Maelstrom" (2.2) and "Defenders of Eorzea" (2.3). 2.1's main story makes you do some old content, where as the others don't lol.

Have you started the Crystal Tower questline yet, Dezzy? It's a pretty decent storyline, it might be hard to get through Labyrinth of the Ancients these days though, due to Syrcus Tower being the in thing, lol. It's definately worth doing though, you see what happens to Cid and the others post-2.0 there's also a surprise appearance.

Fighting Fenrir should be good, quite interested in the story behind Snowcloak too.

I've been trying to do Labyrinth but the queue times are so long even for a healer. I want to unlock Syrcus Tower pretty badly.

Definately, I'm wondering if Ishgard is going to be the final dungeon in A Realm Reborn, fighting off Dragoons, to try and take down the tempered Arch Bishop and the Ascians, it'd be a heck of a finale, I think perhaps Eorzea has been lead to believe the Dragons are in the wrong in the Ishgard-Dravanian conflict too, I wouldn't be surprised if there's more to it than Ishgard lets on. The Crystal Braves storyline looks quite interesting too, I wonder where they're headed with that storyline?

Probably the best way to do Labyrinth is to ask your FC to do it with you, they probably wont mind, seeing as you get 200 myth tomestones from it now. Syrcus is a lot more fun than Labyrinth.

I think Ishgard will eventually become an explorable city stata like Limsa, Ul'Dah and Gridania. I do like the idea of having to conquer it as a dungeon before it becomes explorable though.

I disagree, skills could be learned from job quests if they wanted to add more and the Ilvl system offers progression. Increasing the level cap is just another way to extend the game artificially.

I saw the pictures earlier and thought they looked good, Ishgard looks massive but I do hope Dravania is a bit more interesting visually then what we've seen.

Samurai's a bit of a predictable class, I can't say I'm too excited for it. The game really needs more magic and ranged classes, I'd welcome something like a Gunner far more then another melee dps when we already have three. Then again I could see it potentially being a tank class which could be interesting.

I'm guessing it'll be a Tank job for Dragoons. I've noticed that they've said new JOBS, not classes so I think we're finally going to get branching jobs for all the classes like they promised at the start. I hope they're like the Arcanist branch in which the different jobs fulfill different roles. They could really play around with the capabilities of each class, imagine a DPS Conjurer class (Geomancer? elementalist?) or a Thaumaturge Healer (which I'd imagine as a vampiric styled job that drains health from enemies and gives it to allies). It's an exciting prospect and I can't wait until the London event to find out more.

I've not tried doing an Atma yet, I've seen people in my FC rip their hair out over it so I haven't bothered yet.

Yeah, I'm hoping we get a good few different types of Jobs, would love to see Red Mage.

Atma was a pain in the ass, hopefully the patch makes it easy.

Red Mage would be an interesting albeit difficult class to place in this game since it is a jack of all trades class in a game where classes are explicitly defined. I do want more magic classes though, a DoM tank would be an interesting prospect as well as a melee ranged mage (could be the Red Mage).

How many times have you run ST now that the loot is unrestricted? I've been doing it loads, got almost a full set of Lancer and Monk gear from it now, my PGL and LNC 's only at level 15 but you can't be too prepared.

I think Odin is actually coming out this month, after the JP fanfest, meaning he wont be part of 2.5, I'm not sure who could be the big bad of 2.5, it could be Omega Weapon.

I also have a feeling that we're going to be going from 2.45 to 2.5 this time, since nothing about 2.48 has been mentioned, and there's no real features to go into it, which means 2.5 might be coming in January.

I'm looking forward to exploring the airship that Midgardsormr is coiled around, I've always wondered what is in there. I don't mind the choices for Hard Mode this time around, they seem to be decent choices. It is possible that we will get a 2.5 Part 2, to lead up into Heavensward, possibly with the final HM dungeons.
