He's talking about one of the most talented and biggest selling artists on the planet who still has millions of fans who still idolise him and respect his contribution to music. MJ isn't untouchable, neither are the other artists you mentioned. They might be ~legendary in the music scene, but that doesn't mean that people can't dislike them.
I would take Sam's music over MJ's or of those others aaaany day. It's just personal preference.
