Hi.

Update.

What I've done so far....

Contacted GamCare
Spoken to my doctor.
In the process of awaiting counselling and some group therapy.
Spoken to a debt management adviser.
Spoken to the manager at the bingo club and effectively banned myself.

I feel quite drained but am glad I've taken some steps. I couldn't have done it without you lot, so thanks so much. It means a lot.

I've worked out my finances and I'm paying back what I stole. It won't take forever.

It's gonna be a massive adjustment, I was gambling nearly every day for quite a while, and I let it get really out of hand. The manager of the bingo club, Mark, was non judgemental, I told him what I'd done and how ashamed I am. He said ring him in a few weeks and let him know how I'm getting on. I found him very approachable and caring.

The first step was owning it Kate, the second was taking some steps to address the issue.....good for you Kate

Have you managed to have a conversation with your boyfriend yet?

People will support you but unfortunately the hard work in down to you. Keep us updated with how you are getting on and if you feel like you are having a bad day, post in here and people will help distract you

DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY SILLY GAMES FROM THE INTERNET THAT REQUIRE YOU TO MAKE OURCHASES TO GET FURTHER IN THE GAME.

Not really as yet Annie, he's still not happy with me and we are barely talking. I wrote him a letter and he read it, but didn't give any feedback. I'm hoping when I make the first repayment to him tomorrow of what I took he'll see that I'm trying.

Quick further update.

So I've got a telephone consultation pre counselling sorted out. It's 6 sessions on a one to one basis.

Also I'm attending my first Gamblers Anon meeting on Monday night in the town centre.

Give him the repayment and say nothing as your actions prove you are trying to remedy things between you, don't force him to talk as you'll probably make him dig his heels in, let a bit a time pass and hopefully you'll both be able to talk it out ~ esp when you've taken steps to improve things at your end and thats a massive step from you. No one on here wants to see you fail…and you have laid bare your addiction in many posts and something that some on here have helped you with. That’s a huge incentive for you to make this work…we are all behind you.

True. I know someone who had a bad gambling problem. He spent the rent money and his other half threw him out.

It’s akin to a drug addict. Ruins lives around the person and their problem.
