Give him the repayment and say nothing as your actions prove you are trying to remedy things between you, don't force him to talk as you'll probably make him dig his heels in, let a bit a time pass and hopefully you'll both be able to talk it out ~ esp when you've taken steps to improve things at your end and thats a massive step from you.
