Default Stephen King's IT

I recently did a review on this old 1990 mini-series for Youtube that can be found here:

And it got me re-watching it. I was a big, big fan of the original 1986 novel and this just does a poor execution of it. I blame the Director. But anyhow, there's a remake coming out soon with the guy who wrote "The Invasion" penning the script. It's also supposed to be updated to take place in 2010 and having the flashbacks in the 1980s. Anyone else a fan of the book, original mini-series or just looking forward to the new film coming out soon?

It isn't as scary as everyone makes out, the end is complete bull.

I mean turning into a spider?

Pathetic dull ending IMO.
It started off great and slowly went downhill as the movie went on.

For once, (other than our shared Marcus adoration), I do have to agree with you. I think most Stephen King books have weak endings but it's really evident here and the director doesn't help that at all.

Personally, I think it just suffers due to age mostly. Tim Curry was fine as Pennywise and a lot of people who find it 'scary' saw it when they were younger - so that could explain the mass appeal.

Time's done it no favours really, Only Pennywise really remains creepy. I heard they were gonna remake it and stick closer to the book but that was a few years back.

The novel is one of the greatest ever written, in any genre.

No movie adaptation will ever do it justice, as it would have to be about 5 hours long.

The movie will just focus on the clown, there is a hell of a lot more to it than that though.

O.T: But I thought The Shining had a great ending.

Can't wait to see the remake of this though.

Same here

I enjoyed it when I was a kid, but saw it recently and didn't think much of it.

It's an average movie at best. I don't have a phobia of clowns and that's probably the only reason why people thought it was scary. The spider was the lamest of lame and looked like something frrom a low budget 1980s film rather than the 90s

It was an early 90's TV miniseries though, in fairness the effects were never gonna stand the test of time.

The effects weren't the problem, but the cliche characters and story and stilted acting.

Thanks, I plan on it. I had to replace the video though because Youtube removed it cause of the gangbang photochop.

Anyhow, the acting is certainly not the best but I definitely do not think it's the actors faults. I think it's due to having a ****ty director behind the camera that the performances are so half-assed. On paper, the cast was pretty great for a TV movie. It was just poor production behind it.

Also, I think most special effects other than say like...latex and make up, are due to be dated in time. CGI especially is the worst. I can't even begin to rant about how many movies from the late 1990's and early 2000's I used to love but are ruined now because of bad special effects.
