We've seen the endless discussions about being an older mother, what about a father?
Simon Cowell believes he may be too old (he's 50 I believe??) yet the Des O'Connors of this world are knocking them out in their 70's I was borne to older parents (40's) so I suppose have to be grateful yet at the same time both were deceased by the time I was 10. Is there ever a good time to say no? Personally I'd think upto 60 is OK to be a new father. After that, no Last edited by Kerry; 26-01-2011 at 03:53 AM. |

Depends on how old the parents live to and how well they are.
It seems the OPs parents both died very young so maybe not a great example. 20 years of good parenting is better than 40 of bad |

I'd say about that too, I'm working it out by adding 20 years on which taking university into account etc when your responsibility ends (not that you ever really stop feeling responsible for your child but education wise etc.) that would make the father 65 and to me any older is too old

The voice of reason

A ninety-year-old man went to the doctor and said, “Doctor, my eighteen-year-old wife is expecting a baby.”
The doctor said, “Let me tell you a story. A man went hunting, but instead of a gun, he picked up an umbrella by mistake. When a bear suddenly charged at the man, he picked up the umbrella, shot the bear, and killed it.” The man said, “Impossible. Someone else must have shot the bear.” The doctor said, “My point exactly.” |

You need a lot of energy and patience to have children, both of which probably reduce with age, so I reckon 40 odd is the oldest first time parents should be..

If you haven't done it by 27, then forget it, have kids, bring them up, boot them out and then enjoy the fruits of your labours while you're still (relatively) young, otherwise you'll be paying for university and weddings out of your pension .....

For mothers and fathers the oldest age to have a child should be 45.
First expectant mothers and fathers.. mid 20's. Some people have kids when they are 20-25. That is fine if they are mature enough and financially stable. Having kids younger than 20 is too young. |
