The H is silent, as it is in various other words starting with the letter H.
Hour, Hotel, Herb etc. used to drive me nuts as a kid wondering why it was an hour and an Hotel ...anyhow, life is far too short to worry over if I can remember the right way to say anything, the dialect in these parts drop loads of letters all over the place in words so anything goes

We say 'otel up here..so saying "an hotel "is the norm. (Well, some of us do)
Having said that, many many moons ago we were taught that in our very expensive private school.
It was in Africa so maybe they leaned more to the old ways using the French pronunciation
Thinking about it, it does drive hubby crackers when I say otel

i feel like everyone knows how to pronounce "H" but now you are making it like a political thing, where you have to say Hay-tch just to be anti-American

i feel like some people just want to be against americans sometimes. i really do feel that way sometimes.
