I can't swim. Went every week in junior school for 4 years, just can't do it. Neither can my sister.
I'm not even afraid of water or anything, just can't grasp swimming. |

..I can swim, I can ride a bike, I can iron a shirt...I just struggle to do all three at the same time on a sluggish day...

We've been trying for years to get my eldest swimming but she still can't (she's nearly 9). She suffered perforated eardrum when she was 5 or 6 and for a while after that had problems with ear infections / water getting trapped (which was very painful) if she ever got water in her ears and now basically has a phobia of her ears going under water... she all she can do is a very ineffective doggy paddle with her head bobbing around above the water line. We try constantly but it's become like a reflex, and professional swimming teachers can't get her to stop doing it either .

To be fair, she also couldn't ride a bike until last summer (this time, through fear of falling
) but then it clicked really spontaneously. Like she went from barely being able to balance, to cycling along the road, in the space of 10 minutes. It was bizarre. We now cycle to school every day and they've just done their school cycling proficiency thing and she came 2nd in the class for the balance / control game they did at the end.So I guess there's hope that one day she'll simply swim off across the pool like a little fishy. |

![]() yes because that is exactly what I am talking about..also the girl who had her legs bitten off in a shark attack when she was 8 - disgraceful that she now is scared stiff of water and cant swim at 18 or the guy in an iron lung 24/7 ...etc etc I am talking about people with no excuses (or lame ones) |

Anyway, more importantly, LOOK at your post count when I read this post ![]() ![]() You'll need to make over 11,000 more posts before this momentous occasion can be repeated. I'm frankly bowled over. I can't wait until I hit 22,222 and am really upset that I missed 11,111

It may be if a person is over-confident in their swimming ability they put themselves in situations where they are more at risk. |
