Default Should workers be allowed to go home early today to watch the football?

According to Keirs stammers they should.

But what do you think?

I've been known to book AL for game releases but you can't reliably do it any more because they NEVER release when they're supposed to .

If their work’s non-essential, why not?

Because it (falsely) places football as being of higher importance than countless other events that other people would want leave for... and giving extra leave for ALL of those events is unrealistic. No to extra privileges for football yobs. By all means, companies could add an extra three holiday days a year to be taken as "standalone event days" or whatever, to be spent how the employee chooses.

in this day and age with video on demand, there is just no necessity to watch the match as it actually happens. That's the whole point of video on demand is it not

Given time off work.. to watch football? I can’t even comprehend how ridiculous that concept is

No because it doesn't start at 5 so the yobs who watch drag race don't need to leave early

To be fair, it can be hard to avoid hearing a sports result if you don't watch it live, especially something like an international game where you're going to have topless chavs parading the streets chanting about it if it's a win.

My dad loves (to this day) telling a tale from about 30 years ago, where he had recorded a Celtic game to watch when we got home from shopping, and a neighbour stopped him as we got out of the car to ask if he watched the game. He said no, and not to tell him the score as he was about to watch a recording... to which the neighbour said "Ahh OK I won't spoil it - but it was a boring game anyway, there weren't any goals".

This is basically his all-time favourite "dad story".
