You should not be confused, it really is quite simple, they are being bullied and what you see is their (Spencer's) self defence mechanism.
Without Spencer's strength of character Heidi would have succumbed long ago.
Rylan is using a well known technique that people who live in fear of being bullied themselves use, they align themselves with the majority in order to bully others in order to be accepted as part of the mainstream group.
rylan is even worse than that because, there is no doubting he is a good looking lad, which instantly makes other attracted to him, this allows him to be a bully from a position of leadership which he has mastered the art of very well indeed.

the more we know of rylan being let out of the house to practice routines etc the more i think he is being a nasty piece of work. he seems to be attscking speidi because he knows he is populsr on the outside and they sre not.
