I can 110% confirm, that 2009 was indeed the year that music lost meaning, and every song begun sounding the same along with the music videos looking the same.

So can we stop all this '2008 was when things got crap' bollocks - because 2008 was actually brilliant in comparison to 2009.

The whole list of Number Ones were amazing, right up until 'June 2009' when JLS came on the scene with 'Beat Again' and now Taio Cruiz is on with 'Break Your Heart.'

2009 was amazing (if you're looking at music beyond #1s because you can make convincingly bad arguments for every year if you do that).

The XX, Florence + the Machine, VV Brown, Mumford + Sons, Animal Collective, Beach House, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Prodigy, Royksopp, Passion Pit, Pet Shop Boys, Paloma Faith, Major Lazer, Noisettes, Lily Allen, Mika, The Leisure Society, Grizzly Bear, Doves, Empire of the Sun, Daniel Merriweather, Biffy Clyro, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bat for Lashes, Basement Jaxx, Arctic Monkeys, Antony + the Johnsons all did great albums.

Lady GaGa - The Fame Monster
Rihanna - Rated R
Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas (the album was 2008 but this was her best song )
Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA (only good song, let's be honest)

The 1999-2003 wave of British singer-songwriters was horrible. Damien Rice, David Gray, Dido and Travis dominating the charts. **** right off you bland ****s.

Total bubblegum pop too - S Club, Steps, Spice Girls, Atomic Kitten, Blue, Backstreet Boys, Aqua. All occasionally fun for a bit of nostalgia, but all ultimately soulless, artless tack.

And then there was garage and R&B at the same time. Craig David. That man alone is enough to write off the early 00s.
