Today is the first day of the meteorological (weather) Winter

and right on cue its battering down snow outside my window with around 3 inches fallen (it will all melt later)

I really love when that blanket of snow comes and covers all the brown grass and the mouldy leaves.
I went for a nice crisp walk last night and the street lights and the moon reflecting off the snow were so lovely and bright

This year the astronomical winter begins on 21 December 2015 and ends on 20 March 2016.

Indeed but we are talking about the weather season Winter that occurs in the 5 miles above our heads and not astronomy that occurs far outside our earths atmosphere
