To doing it to a human
(I just buried my old pal 5 mins ago in the garden) Now I know that a cat is not a human but for those who are not religious, what do you see as a difference between my cat and your granny, for example? Where do your morals and boundaries actually come from? |

I think if a person has a terminal illness and is really suffering it should be an option.
The difference between your cat and my granny?? Different species and I'm not related to your cat!

How could you be sure that the decision was not made by a relative who was after some money?

Euthanasia has strict guidelines anyway. You can't just kill your family member and claim you were alleviating their pain.
It requires input from a) the person suffering, b) a dr who can state the amount of pain/likelihood of treatment. It also takes into account whether the suffering is inevitably leading directly to death, and how 'normal' you can lead your life with the disease/suffering. So yes, I am in support of Euthanasia. In it's current form - it can't be abused. |

Not really, they write a report about it. It can hardly be abused, with all the official avenues and court cases you have to take just for it to become a possibility.

and so you think it should be possible for suicidal people to also seek such measures, rather than say throwing themselves of a building and tying up emergency services for hours etc?

No I don't. I think it should be used in the current measures, like I said. (When an illness is affecting quality of life/is fatal anyway).

Euthanasia is already legal by technicality, they might as well just make it fully legal

In September Jack Straw, the Justice Minister, expressed his opposition to any weakening of the assisted suicide law.
Commenting on the issue in an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Mr Straw said: “I’m not in favour of changing the law. “That would give a green light to assisted suicide, and my worry has always been the potential for abuse. “I’ve had some experience of loved ones in the terminal stages of illness. I don’t think you should give relatives that discretion. “I just think it’s wrong to consider assisting someone in suicide. It’s not something I’m willing to contemplate.” |

If the person asks you to do it as it will free them from suffereing, then of course its the right thing to do.
Its almost completely legal now anyway. |

Well, speaking as a person who is not terminally ill and of sound mind, I can say right now that if I were dying anyway and in terrible pain, I would rather get an injection and die sooner rather than suffer months of pain and die anyway.

Not really.
But I think euthanasia should be legal anyway. Its a persons choice if they want to die or not. Same way as suicide isnt illegal. Also I believe people who try to kill theirselves shouldnt be saved. Its a waste of time on the hospitals part, and if they wanted to die,why save them? It would also stop a lot of this 'cry for help' bollocks that happens. People wouldnt be so quick to take 10 paracetamols (which is unlikely to kill you anyways...) and phone ambulances on themselves and that. That way people who NEED help, would get it quicker. Euthanasia should be made legal. I have a strong opinion that people should do what they want with their lifes, as long as they are not affecting other people in a negatively painful way or mentally making them ill. By that.. I don't mean people being upset that they are dead, I mean like.. mentally torturing them

Argeed with what Vicky,Loz and Lewis said. I've heard people in hospitals scream 'Just let me die'. It's just beyond horrible.
