Default Should the death of a soldier always be lead news?

Should the death of a UK soldier always be a lead news item?

yes

can you say why, bearing in mind that soldiers fight in wars and have a tendency to die?

why would that be any more news than a car accident where a nurse died?

People who die in car accidents are not fighting on behalf of our country........Out of respect for their courage we should have them on front line news..........Anything less would be a betrayal of our fighting forces......

My god and you wonder why I keep insulting you every time you post.

On to the subject at hand, I believe that the death of a soldier should be publicised, It allows people to pay their respects and allows the soldiers that die to be remembered as heroes. These people die for us, it's the very least we can do really.

I only love insulting ignorance so you're like a *****ing goldmine to me. It's hilarious that you brand me the idiot when you've never actually managed to shoot down any of my points ever in an argument.

You're so unbelievable ignorant and stupid it actually amazes me, First the stuff about Haiti and then this do you have no compassion? It is a war and people do die but they report it out of respect so that these people's sacrifices don't go unnoticed. It's called being a decent human being....Something you know nothing about.

So if someone were to die now, right now on there way to a shop..
I ****ing doubt it would be on the news, for respect.

No death ****ing goes unoticed if you have family and friends that care about you, of course they notice.

So when we all die then we should all have our deaths heared on the news incase anyone cares?

Well I dont care about half the deaths I see on the news tbh its the same old same old now.

You absolute nob.

They don't die all the time. FYI hundreds of thousands have gone out since 2003 and a handful have died.

And I think they should generally lead the news most of the time but it obviously depends on the days other events.

Why not a few front pages about the thousands upon thousands of civilians who have been killed too then? Fair is fair.

Best to ignore them mate, they dont have that many close relatives, family or friends living here.

Notice in the Guardian article it discounts the 2006 Lancet's 600,000+ and also corrects the under reporting by such groups as IBC

If thats the case then they might as well axe the news and just show it when something significant happens which would generally be politics. Kids get kidnapped all the time, people are always getting murdered, the weather regularly goes from one extreme to another etc yet they're almost always leading stories on the news.

Because they're not British and weren't killed by putting themselves out there in an attempt to do good. That doesn't have the same effect as it does when its British people, and if it has a high impact then more will watch. ITV and Sky are ratings chasers so they need stories with public interest.

Journalists are supposed to report the news in an objective fashion, showing both sides of the story. Feeding the public what they want to hear is obscuring the truth in a way but I suppose that's the world we live in right now. Shame.

Is this actually true? I doubt it.

Putting up named soldiers from MOD press releases is easier to report than elderly dying alone in their homes/youngsters dying of overdoses/homeless dying on the streets.........you are what you read/view with the media
