I do believe in the Catholic idea of God but a lot of my beliefs have kinda made me feel alienated from the church because I'm quite a liberal person - I agree with abortion, contraception etc but the Church is all with that stuff. Oh and that fact that i'm gay don't really help either.

I don't believe in that whole Adam & Eve crap either. I think God started the Big Bang & evolution.

But if I was to go to a church it would have to be Catholic though.

So your not Catholic at all really? I don't get why people continue to cling to a label even if their beliefs in it have peeled off layer by layer.

Anyway I'd say I'm pantheistic at a stretch. I believe the entire cosmos is one motion of divine energy. Or something like that. Excommunicated myself from the Catholic church at countmeout.ie about a year ago because I didn't want to be a number in the kiddie fiddling industry.

Well this is the thing, I still agree with their idea of God and style of mass. Its just some of the teachings the of Catholic Church I have major issues with which I have listed. You could say I'm Christian but I still prefer to consider myself Catholic because in any other church service I feel really alienated because everything is different. The Catholic service is the only place I feel normal in if you get what I mean?

Oh your church was part of that scandal then?

I don't think I need to ex communicate myself as the catholic church have no hold over me anyway.

Oh your church was part of that scandal then?
Your church was part of it too. The Catholic Church?

What is the Catholic idea of God then? Is it really that exclusive to Catholicism? Does being a 'Catholic' make the God somehow more real? More plausible? And what is that God anyway. Presumably it's the God of The Bible. That child slaying, city destroying rampant narcissist. What a bastard of a God to believe in, right?

I don't want to tell you what you are but Christians - practicing Christians - believe the Bible to be the word of God. They believe in the creation story, they believe the seed of life is sacred, all that sort of thing. You can't really cherry pick the sexy bits and disregard the vast majority of the tract.

One of the cornerstones of the Catholic belief is that your leader - the Pope - is infallible. That he is a direct voice of God and he can't be wrong. Believing those kind of things is what makes you a Catholic surely. Not finding the church buildings relaxing to sit in?

Of course they don't but you add to their numbers. Imagine if all the millions of Catholics-who-are-not-really-Catholics excommunicated tommorow morning? The Vatican would be embarrased. And I do love watching them get embarrased.

Well I do believe in most things they teach but I do pick and chose the parts of it that I believe. I know it ain't totally right but at the end of the day its what I choose to believe in. I'm not gonna let someone in a white robe tell me that I should believe in x, y and z because its in the Bible. I think I have a right to choose what I believe in.

Most of the essential Catholic beliefs and ideals I agree with fully. But its a few things that I have major issues with.

As for the Pope thing yeah I guess I do believe he is God's voice on Earth but the part about him never being wrong is just silly. I think that he can make statements that are divine but not everything he says is God speaking through him.

Also I believe in that kind of God yes. But he isn't always a God of hate (sorry to sound like a priest here) but I do think he can be loving. I have to say though when you put it that way it does make me consider switching religion because that makes the Christian God sound awful. I guess you could say I haven't declared myself an agnostic now because the Christian God is the only type of God I've ever really known in depth. I don't know. The whole thing is still really confusing for me lol. Sorry if none of that makes no sense.

I'm not of any faith. Religious extremists put me off the idea of being an agnostic, so I'm an atheist.
