On Sunday night’s episode of Top Gear, which can still be seen on the BBC iPlayer, Hammond was discussing a Mexican sports car and suggested that vehicles reflect the national characteristics of the country they are from.

He added: ‘Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat.’
He also referred to Mexican food as ‘refried sick’ while May said it was ‘like sick with cheese on it’.

Mexican is not a race. The majority of Mexicans are white.

On another recent episode he said a lot about Australians too, you don't hear the Aussies screaming "racism!!!" do you?

Do they even show Top Gear in Mexico? I doubt it.

Racism can still happen to white people.

But meh, I don't take anything Top Gear says seriously, they are joking around. People need to stop being so cautious and feeble. If he was saying it in a nasty manner in which he meant it then fine, complain, but good lord, people need to get over it.

People bring up English stereotypes and say stuff about our food all the time. Where are the people complaining about that?

Most Mexicans are mestizos (mixed Spanish and native ancestry). Racial slurs for Latin Americans such as 'spic' and 'wetback' commonly refer to stereotypes for Mexican immigrants and hispanic Americans in general. Well the word "racist" caries a lot of weight. I don't think it should be used when it's not applicable. Racist and Pedophile are basically the worst accusations you can make against someone. People shouldn't be throwing words like that around willy nilly IMO.

well, say he had made the comment about an African country like Nigeria for example, would you then consider that racist because they are a different race? even though imo it's the exact same thing

No, as i pointed out before they have said horrible things about plenty of other nationalities, such as American, or Australian.

If he said Black People are lazy and sheet, then it would be racist, if he said Nigerians are lazy and sheet it's not racist.

Black people are a race. Nigerian is a nationality.

And i stand by the thought that people shouldn't throw out such a loaded word so easily.

Racism is associated with things like the KKK lynchings, South African Apartheid, and Nazi Germany. If you use the word "racism" it should be in an appropriate context.

To use it in cases like this dilutes the word.
