That new sith's lightsaber is so unbelievably dumb, a handguard is there to stop their weapon cutting your hands, what happens if you touch your handguard, which can happen.... rest in pepperonis own hand.

Lightsabers are generally a bad idea, one false move could mean it bounces off and cuts you in half Which is probably why they're only used by force users

Yeah they sort of covered this in one of the Old Republic games. You can only use a lightsaber after becoming a Jedi / Sith because without the force, you'll just decapitate yourself or something.

A lot of people say that the design is dumb, but they are thinking too much in terms of traditional sword combat.

If the cross-guard-hilt was used to defend attacks that way, the end-result would be the same as if it wasn't there (therefore no worse in that regard). The cross-guard-hilt would only be marginally riskier for a jedi, from an occupational safety point of view of cutting off their own hands.

The cross-guard-hilt on a lightsaber would make a lot more sense in terms of attacking. When the sabers clash, the wielder with the crossguard may be able to angle the blade down, then quickly rotate, giving their opponent a facefull of mini-lightsaber blade.

JJ Abrahms definately seems more suited to Star Wars than Star Trek, hell the past two Star Trek films felt almost like Star Wars, lol.

Yeah, the CG seems to be there to enhance the scenes, rather than create them, which is the best way to do it (Abrahms did the same with ST). In the prequels you had cgi creating scenes everywhere, even if it was just two characters talking, not only did it look crap, but it made it harder for actors to perform.

It's from a Star Wars website, was leaked in October, was presumed fake, but the lightsaber is pretty damning

I think the lightsaber makes sense, we've got the normal saber, the staff saber, now the broadsaber.
