Default Barbers/hairdressers

Discuss. Are you one of those (women generally ) who books their appointment ages in advance at a ridiculous price and treats it like a big event, or do you just rock along whenever to the nearest and cheapest place for a quick trim. Do you enjoy making small talk with the person cutting your hair as well or prefer it to be quiet.

I'm a pretty conservative person in general so like to stick to what I know, always go to the same old boy. Know what you're getting there; average haircut, average price, average conversation. If I'm at Uni though then I'll just try and find somewhere that looks like a simple back street joint rather than any poncey 'male grooming salon' like half the places seem to be these days.

I usually go about twice a year to get highlights and a cut, my hairdresser used to have her own salon but now she works from home so she's way cheaper than a salon. I usually decide to get my hair done at the last minute before I'm going out somewhere, last time I left it too late so had to go to a different hairdresser and that cost me I would rather people didn't make too much small talk with me when I'm getting my hair done, I prefer to read a magazine while I'm there. It's always the same chit chat too, "Are you off on holidays anywhere" etc etc

I just go to a regular barbers, have a regular cut and usually don't speak at all. Having hair cut is a quick affair for me, I like to pop in and pop out.

My hairdresser comes to the house very 4/5 weeks, she has been coming here about 18 years or so.
We talk about anything and everything, normally sit and have a coffee once she is finished.
Great girl.

I cut my own hair standing semi naked outside in all weathers (like the weekend just gone). I put a big mirror on the back wall and off I go. Smallest boy LT i wait for a windy day and then put him out the front on a wee wooden chair with a towel around him.

I've been to the same barbers about 3-4 times a year for the last 6 years and he still doesn't remember me every time I go.

We go through the exact same conversation each time of him asking where I'm from, what I do etc etc. So ****ing rude.

I always use the same hairdresser and the salon is always busy so have to phone/text her about a week before when I want the appointment.

If I want just a haircut/blowdry/style then it costs me £36.50 if I'm getting my highlights done then it's £49.50.

That's a big drop from when I was a few years younger and it used to cost me (well my parents lol) £79

Also I know my hairdresser well so we have a small chat for a while then I read magazines or my book and have a cup of tea.

The girl I usually go to charges me €70(£52) but because I left it so late to book last time I went to another hairdresser closer to me and she charged me €110(£82) I won't be going back there again

The prices in some of the salons are shocking aren't they?

I used to not mind the price when my parents where the ones paying it but now I kinda grudge it

Conversation with barber exactly repeats last one

A MAN’S bi-monthly conversation with his barber was word-for-word the same as the one two months ago.

The 25-minute dialogue covered the cold weather, Chelsea’s dominance in the league and modern music in an exact replication of December’s dialogue.

Warehouse manager Stephen Malley, who has been asking for the same haircut in the same words since his father taught him them 20 years ago, proclaimed himself happy with the haircut, the conversation and the rare opportunity to look at the back of his own head.

He said: “It’s always nice to catch up, and by catch up I mean repeat exactly the same banalities that we’ve been rehearsing for years.

“The pause before he asked about my holiday plans seemed a millisecond longer than usual, but like a true professional he appeared to remember absolutely nothing of what I’d told him last time.

“I’m already looking forward to doing it all again in April.”

Barber Wayne Hayes said: “I dunno. I was happy with it, but I wonder about sticking to my tried-and-true set as opposed to trying some fresh material.

“Just sometimes I’d like to talk about quantum entanglement or dogs.”

Yep, that's me. I recently changed where I go because I found somewhere much cheaper (not as close, but still close), and they do just as good a job.

Though, they do seem to always short change me by a penny (yes, a whole penny!!), but it's still cheaper than my old place by a few quid so I don't really care.

I don't instigate the conversation, but I'm happy for them too. It is awkward when we're totally silent when the other customers are chatting away with the person cutting their hair, so I do prefer to talk, but I'll always wait for them to start.

Speaking of barbers, I remember one time I was waiting (this was at my last place), I looked down and realised that whoever was sitting there before me had left the newspaper open on Page 3. I wanted to close it so it didn't look like I was the one who opened it, but was paranoid that someone would look at me at precisely the wrong time and think I'd just opened it, so I left it and tried to ignore the awkwardness of having a paper opened on a nude woman right in front of me.

And no, I couldn't even secretly enjoy the situation because I'm gay, there was literally nothing beneficial for me.

I have mine cut every 4 weeks because I'm a hairy bastard and it grows really fast. I have a mobile hairdresser that I've used for around 3 years now and it's so much more convenient for me.
