Yes, I just saw the end where he mentioned that he "sometimes flirts just to be polite".

I personally think that's a mistake. You can be polite and engage with someone whilst not sending a confusing message. There are people who get that flirting is just flirting, but it's pretty obvious that Chloe is NOT one of those people and that she will mistake his polite flirting for genuine interest. That's my thinking, she's just going to take "letting her down gently" as "leading her on"... then when she realises it isn't happening she'll kick off even more, accusing him of just that.
