Default Let's face it.

Patsy nominating Jack was soap on soap violence.

It's basically a hate crime.

they have a lot in common. They both describe themselves as actors while only having played themselves for decades.

It was funny how she said he reminded her of the Joker, and then a few minutes later she was sat in the bath with a powder white face on. Spitting image of Joaquin Phoenix.

You could drag 20 people off the street and they could be soap "actors" within a week. Zero talent, just learning lines and standing in the right place

Indeed some of the best movies have major characters played by complete newbies to acting ..

Then we see so many comedians who move so easily into the acting business successfully

Also one of our favourite tv series 1883 had two famous country and western singers in the two major roles

Their only requirement seems to be an accent connected to the location of the soap.

It might be a bit snobbish but I see soap actors who stay in their roles their whole lives and think that's quite sad really, did you really have that little ambition as an actor to do anything different

Oddly I recall a famous, high protein actor joined Coronation Street many years ago for a few weeks ..

I couldn’t see that he was any better than the soap actors … maybe he was restricted by the quality of the script

Do you mean Sir Ian McKellen? He was apparently a long time fan of the show. I think it can be agreed he is several steps up from Jack P Shepherd.

Yes indeed but he just blended in with the others for some reason and was indistinguishable from the others

Maybe the wretched script ??

I mean soap opera actors are totally workmen actors. Many of them don't see their profession as an art or a craft as much as they see it as simply being a job. One of the few jobs nowadays where you basically have an opportunity at an unbroken continuous run of around fifty years of work and then retirement with a gold watch and a cigar.

You do get a few who step up to better things... Suranne Jones and Sarah Lancashire spring to mind but they do their stint then move on.

I know that the actress Ivy Tillsley worked sewing cheap fashion goods in a factory in Manchester for years to supplement her acting career
