....and what do you find shameful about William and Kate, Edward and Sophie, Princess Anne for example? |

they are all elitist and over privileged. I would remove the lot of them in an instant. We still have the history which is what the tourists come for. The number of royal events that there are throughout the year pale into insignificance to the value of our history

Republicanism is still pretty niche in this country tbh and I don't see that changing simply because its not a priority for most people and no government is going to take the risk of proposing its abolition. I actually think the monarchy now is a lot more stable than it was a hundred years ago now that it's settled into its largely ceremonial role
It's not like this country is the only one with a royal family, several other European countries still have theirs and seem to manage just fine through periods of succession |

Tbh I've never heard an argument in favour of abolishion which is stronger than "it is the current year". There's just no need.

That said you may well be right - just because there's no particular passion for the monarchy, doesn't mean there's much of a drive to remove it either, if it's seen as inert. So maybe it will continue through sheer apathy ![]() |

i think Andrew did severe damage to the firm, i think M&H have created their own disquiet. I think people are being polite for now because of the queen, but if Andrew tries to raise his head again during Charles reign, it will be off to the tower

If Charles scales back the monarchy as has been suggested, it will be a popular move

While I don't agree with them booing him, they haven't done anything legally wrong.

The monarchy has to live on for all our laws to stand...its either anarchy, or the rest of our lives are governed by some self entitled old men in Charles, then william.
Luckily for me, I've had 52 years of the most wonderful, dedicated grand old woman looking after us. Good luck to you millennials, but I guess it's what all your disrespectful arses deserve. Enjoy your 52 years. |
