What should benefit hopes of de-escalation now is that none of the UN security powers want the war to expand so neither Israel nor Iran will have much support from their allies. The danger is that neither country cares about that given that they can both act erratically

i was watching the bbc news coverage (its been a while since i last watched it) and the people they had on as guests were saying things like .... now would be a good time for iran and israel to get round the table and put their differences aside The bbc has sunk even lower than i had previously thought

Neither Israel nor iran will back down from this, and the USA will back up Israel if push comes to shove. The allies have already chosen a side, the war has already escalated, they are just playing with words to pretend otherwise. Israel will "exact a price" from Iran in response to its attack on the country when the time is right, war cabinet minister Benny Gantz says.

The video was one of several clips to show Iranian missiles and drones successfully pass through Israel's air defence "minutes ago" and strike pre-designated targets, state TV reported.

i think this was iran's plan from the start, they want a regional conflict and there is such hatred in the region that it takes very little to light the fuse.

It's not even just the fact that there will likely be a regional war, the effect on the global economy will be absolutely massive, so countries that don't want to get involved will be dragged in across the globe. Honestly, i think it's inevitable or as close to inevitable as it could possibly be

Just to add, when America were attacked on home soil, they didn't hesitate to exact revenge, so Biden saying don't retaliate is laughable
