Quand il pleut, il pleut

…this is an article from just over a year ago and something that Teja was approached to be involved in, she’s obviously always had awareness of social issues and any impact on people that she’s known ….
"I've got a lot of friends and family members who have been stopped," Teja said. "We wanted to give a voice to young people and talk about what's been going on." Avon and Somerset Police admitted at the time of the article that it had “much more work to do” after it declared itself “institutionally racist” the previous year. Figures for the first five months of 2024 show black people were still six times more likely to be the subject of stop and search than white people in the Avon and Somerset area. The force has published a report into its anti-racism strategy a year after evidence found a difference in the way it interacted with people from different ethnic and racial backgrounds. …the article …. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz7e12lj5p0o …and the short 7 minute video is a very powerful watch… Unjust Stop is a powerful short film written and performed by young CPT, focusing on the disproportionate use of stop and search tactics in the black community. The film sheds light on the negative consequences of improper stop and search practices and their profound impact on young people. Additionally, it emphasizes what a proper and respectful stop-and-search should entail, aiming to educate and inspire change.

I'm amazed that the police investigated any potential crime in Somerset tbh.
They're all too busy playing Cricket. ![]()

…Teja shows social awareness and an interest in politics, which I think is a good thing…what we’re seeing in BB though as well is a lot of aspects to her character, which we all have…she’s young and fun and enjoying herself and her experience…I don’t see why or how her involvement in this project would in any way be a negative, she was approached to take part from what the article is saying …no matter what any of our beliefs in terms of anything political/social issues etc..we all seem to agree, or many of us that tolerance and listening and not judging/labelling on single aspects is so important because it’s so damaging and dividing to do that…
…anyways, I posted it because I thought that it showed a great side to Keja, that she seems more the housemate that’s not so ‘self promoting’ and at a very young age, is involved in things that impact others around her…

But, being aware ofc is not the same as being right. This film is laughable in how it paints the police as evil monsters, and that's from me that doesn't like the police much. But here it is clearly done to a purpose.. It's propaganda. The reason there is a disparity in stop and search is based on evident trends and events... Some groups are just over represented and therefore it makes sense to target them more when trying to prevent crime. Honestly, come to St Pauls here in Bristol and I can show you what I mean.

…the thing is for me when I came across the article and then looked up the vid…?…is that the Avon and Somerset police force had admitted at that time that it had “much more work to do” and had declared itself to be “institutionally racist”…so the video was in many ways, if not all ways to present an aspect of looking at ‘two sides of a community’ that needed work to bring together…Teja, was approached to take part, having friends who had been impacted so she was just part of presenting that and that perspective…I don’t see that as presenting itself as being right…I see it more as conversations open up and situations open up to be looked at by presenting all sides and all perspectives, that’s what creates understandings …(…for any who are open to understandings …)….

We are all shaped by our experiences, good or bad. I just think in the age of echo chambers it's a lot more difficult to identify genuine passion from indoctrination

I am 100% open to dialogue and understanding, but that ofc relies on both parties to come into it with honesty and good faith, which is something that the grievance culture of the 'left' will never do. I am a white guy and I live in a very diverse neighbourhood in Bristol and can honestly say that I have received way more racism than I have ever seen towards others

…anyway, the article was interesting in its own right because the mentioned police force had proclaimed themselves to have specific issues and failings … Avon and Somerset Police admitted at the time of the article that it had “much more work to do” after it declared itself “institutionally racist” the previous year. Figures for the first five months of 2024 show black people were still six times more likely to be the subject of stop and search than white people in the Avon and Somerset area. The force has published a report into its anti-racism strategy a year after evidence found a difference in the way it interacted with people from different ethnic and racial backgrounds. …but yeah, it’s probably straying off into non BB/housemate territory but as a generalisation, it’s so great to see a young person such as Teja…not only showing great engagement in social issues but also engaging in discussing her views…

I rode a motorbike when I was younger, right the way through uni and beyond. I was always legal and was never charged with any crime but I was young, and I was pulled up by the police all the time, it was kind of expected. My brother and his mates were stopped all the time when he was late teens, early twenties. He committed the crime of having a reasonably nice car at a young age. Despite being legal and never being charged with anything at all, he and his mates were brutalised by the police, pulled up, pushed around, slammed up against a wall cutting his head, dragged off to the Big House.... not because of the colour of their skin but because they were young.
