Default Black Friday deals - What have you purchased?

I’ve been very restrained this year. I’ve only purchased some new bamboo bedding, new radio for the kitchen and a few essential oils.

I buy things when I need them or I want to buy them. Not when a group of marketers tell me too. I'm just not that far gone, yet. I'm still able to think for myself at the moment.

Not everyone impulses buys to be a sheep. Some of us need/want things and hold off for the Black Friday sales (as why wouldn’t you if you suspect it’ll be cheaper lol).

it really revolves around do you need something now or within a time window. If the answer is time window, then you just wait for a promotional offer that makes it cheaper/

Thats not being a sheep. It's sensible money management

Black Friday sales aren't even big price markdowns anymore. They are normal sales. The exception are PC parts that haven't been affected by huge surges in RAM prices... much of that has been announced it is about to shoot up in price.

yeah 20% off is the same as any other sale, and that seems to be the typical BF discount

A Halogen heater for £14.99 which was supposed to be a Black Friday great deal.

Turns out the same model was selling for £9.99 in September.

I have heard that they put the price up for a month or so then drop it for Black Friday, I hate the whole concept, its an American import we never asked for

I don't mind it. Though some people here are bummed we don't have that holiday memory anymore exploring the sales landscape and making an itinerary. When my friend flew from Osaka for Thanksgiving, we took him to Black Friday when we lived in the Northeast since his hours were still adjusting and he was still a wee bit jetlagged anyway. So 5am shopping trips it was...

Btw @Maru I have nothing against Americans but Black Friday is linked to Thanksgiving and I hate how its been jumped on in Europe, that said originally it was Amazon who had Black Friday sales which was fair enough given their origins but obviously other retailers couldn't let that pass, I feel like its had its day though and is slowly dying out, when it started originally there would be physical fights over TVs now I dont think people bother with it that much, just come back from Poland where it is Black week or Black Month ....just madness

Yeah, it’s not a day now. It feels like a whole month usually.

BF is more of a Christmas tradition than Thanksgiving, imo, because for so many people Christmas decorations and stuff come out right after Thanksgiving. We tend to celebrate both holidays as part of the longer holiday season.

I don't know when y'all imported it, but when I was much younger, it signaled a time of high spirits and it signed a healthy economy at that time. Lots of trips to the Mall just to walk around and see the decorations and in the US it's when most people start to light their homes.

Shops were more competitive and it was really fun to see what each would pull, just from the sales papers. Now it's just companies throwing cheap plastic crap that really is a waste of manufacturing as it will very shortly end up in a landfill before long. It's no longer that special time for shopping with the family since good deals are across the entire year now. What I remember more fondly are the things that would happen adjacent to the start of the holiday season. Trips to the mall, going through the sales sheet with family. My cousins and I would go the hair salon together as a family, maybe see a movie in the Mall. I think BF is going the way of the Malls frankly so you may get your wish before long? It doesn't make sense during a time when some people can't even afford a holiday meal.

It's been officially a month-long-ish sales holiday now and that's acknowledged when I talk to shopkeeps that there isn't a proper BF now. It makes it very difficult to find a good deal, if there was any. There's also gimmicks and tricks... one may be buying a model that has stripped down features from the original model to make the price more attractive and this is what is found on a pallet during the BF sales period.

Cyber Monday is my real pet peeve as it became useless shortly after they started it because the sales are saturated over the weekend and now across the whole month. That one I wish we could get rid of. Without spending hours on shopping, I just look for the things I actually need.

Anyway, I'm not actually complaining, just explaining my thoughts. I'm not particularly bothered that it's changed? As long as a product is at a fair price, I'll shop when there is a sales period.

Over here prior to Black Friday the Boxing Day sales and January sales were a big thing. They’ve become pretty much redundant now though.
