The fact that people use the de-valuing, de-humanising, turn-a-blind-eye-to-rape-and-pillaging-and-enslaving-and-colonialism concept of Anglo-Saxon white supremacy to refer to other parts of the world that white people certainly don’t have monopoly over (Europeans grew out of Africans, not the other way around) as third-world, and the fact that the moderators do nothing but inevitably delete and sweep under the carpet anything that questions or challenges anything (even coded racism/xenephobia) in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable rather than confronting the bias and the actual elephant in the room. And we wonder why so many people have packed this place in for Discord. I don’t blame them. Individual Discord-groups can get cliquey and equally toxic, sure, but that can happen anywhere. People aren’t wrong to kick the towel in and get fed up of this site, a site where discrimination goes unchecked every day. A forum where this comment is more likely (and almost inevitable to be) to be deleted than the actual offending post(s). Do better.

You don’t need to travel to Lagos for detty December, learn to fry plantain (and distinguish between it and banana in the first place)/speak Gullah or even be non-white (or at-least Mediterranean) to call out blatant racism and demand for better. How many times have various people pointed this out over the years and why are we still tolerating the indefensible? It wouldn’t be acceptable to explicitly and unmistakably refer to women, Jews or LGBT-spectrum people as third-class citizens, so why is the nationalistic equivalent allowed and allowed to roam unchecked? But still, why be fair when you can just endlessly delete and draw a line under posts?

Anyway, that’s my own. That’s my own contribution towards what saddens me. I’ll not say more at this moment. But Alf? Ah, may the Lord have mercy on you.

I agree. Watching people drink themselves silly every weekend is very sad to watch. And don’t say alcohol isn’t a drug, because in some departments it’s second only to heroin in terms of worldwide destructiveness. It just happens to be culturally embedded and socially sanctioned. It never was, no matter how many times you make it a running gag whenever I touch a nerve that wasn’t even intended to be touched (at-least not just you). You weren’t being singled out when I made that initial post about the implicit racism in how some people use the unfortunate term “third-world”. But you recognised yourself in it and took umbrage. That’s not my problem. I have no control over that. Just don’t go making me out as some chronic stoner or out-and-out junkie just because I’ve talked about weed and medicinal whatever a few times and happen to be anti-over-glamorisation-of-alcohol (your favourite voice, however you choose to spell it) culture. You’d be shocked at how I actually live my life. I’m saying that explicitly once-and-for-all instead of letting unspoken allusions and mis-projections of whatever false (or at the least grotesquely exaggerated) side-narrative has built up around me over the past couple of years that some people seem to want to believe and point out just for the sake of it. You’re more likely to have the problem, if there is a problem between us.

Deflection based on out-of-context stereotypes from individual comments made years ago that have selectively stuck whenever someone triggers another by pointing out bias that they’d rather not confront and wasn’t even written with them at the forefront of their minds is pretty sad, too. It’s easy to just infer that someone’s a junkie based on nothing tangible or real in the past as well as present than confront your own bias.

I am in a CRT group just so I can watch people try to prepare/maintain them. I don't have the space but regret leaving behind my Toshiba in Maryland. It was a very nice set and didn't take up much space for simple things like watching older shows or old games.

The indigenous working class of this country didn't make anything from the empire and continue to be one of the most downtrodden and held back groups in the country. No one alive now took part in the ravaging of other countries so, to me, saying that everyone whose country was ensnared in the empire has the right to come here makes as much sense to me as saying everyone who lives in a country that was captured by the Roman empire should have the right to live in Italy. The Normans came here 1000 years ago, murdered, pillaged and changed our culture forever. No one thinks we should have free reign to live in France.

I lived most of my life in an area that was happily multicultural. My family and I have friends whose roots lie all over the world. Now that area is only 20% white and over 50% Muslim. When people come here from poor, third world countries, where are they placed? In poor working class areas where there are already people on waiting lists for social housing and in some cases those immigrants are placed ahead of them on those waiting lists. It's unsustainable and what's more, I believe the huge influx of people from incompatible cultures - by that I mostly mean fundamentalist Islam - has made it worse for all immigrants and also for people whose family has been here for generations.
