Fame Academy was a no frills talent search, artists had to right their own material etc

Popstars series 1 was a behind the scenes style show, series 2 was similar but interactive

Pop Idol was Stars in their Eyes with a recording deal at the end

X Factor is a huge production and pantomime, its all about the judges. The acts are just there to make it look like the show is going somewhere
