Devil

It was advertised as a film “from the mind of M. Night Shambles”, I therefore went into it thinking it would be utter dog ****e. Thankfully he didn’t get his hands of failure on the script or the director’s job, so this turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable horror flick with some genuinely chilling moments.

Maybe Shyamalan has finally found something he’s good at - coming up with an interesting premise then staying the eff away, leaving it in the hands of someone capable.

Yeah I totally agree!

---------------------

Funny People - again a really nice dramatic movie. It's nice to see Judd Apatow doing something that's not completely juvenile and based around some guys getting laid or something. That said, it's meant to be a comedian as the main character right? Well I've never, ever, found Adam Sandler funny. Ever.

There's also a total lack of sympathy for the main character who goes through some rare form of leukaemia. Those wanting to see a touching movie will be put off by his total lack of manners, taste, or development. It's a frustrating movie - from the comedy aspect it's LITERALLY 10 knob gags a minute - from the dramatic there's no message. Other than some comedians are wankers.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one Shauny. While the film itself is awful patchy and doesn't know where it's going half the time, I thought Sandler was tremendous in his part - did I actually just say that? - and never played for sympathy or for likeability. I think he nails it, seriously.

I think I object to the character more than him - at first I thought it was going to go down the run-of-the-mill "redemption" route where he sees he wants family and everything. So for it to turn off from that was a good thing for me. But I don't know, I couldn't empathise at all - I found myself more in the younger comedian Ira (played by Seth Rogen): being the doting friend, the naive one, etc.

Got to see Winter's Bone today, it was a gripping story. One of the best movies I seen in a while. It was dark and somewhat grim and about people who are not usually the main characters of films.

It's probably one of the best I seen this year, however I think I will wait a bit before I see it again.

I've never been a fan of Seth Rogen, although he's not half as annoying in this one! Still, I related more to the older, world weary comic than I did to Rogen's character. You know, it's mad to say it, but Sandler has actually become a fairly decent actor as he's matured. Seriously, never saw that ever happening.

The Devil, or Devil, the one with the people in the lift. I thought it was fascinating, a lot better than I thought it would be. I'd really like to see more movies like it.

Yep, but I wasn't really expecting much, so I don't know if that added to how exciting it seemed. My sister loved it too, and she isn't much of a horror fan.

I guess it's not really a horror, it's more of a supernatural thriller. But yea I think it is worth seeing in the cinema.

Oh, and after reading basically all of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories I decided to watch the ITV series from the 80's, and let me tell you, feck Robert Downey Jnr's version of the sleuth, Jeremy Brett is Holmes. Now doubt about it. He is the man that I've read about.

The Taking of Pelham 123 (the recent remake)

John Travolta makes a terrible bad guy, giving him a couple of tats and making him say mother****er every few seconds is not convicing. Plot holes all over the place but it was watchable, just about. Felt sorry for Denzel Washington because I think he's a great actor and he did his best with his role.

Going to try and catch the original at some point.

Devil, I thought it was epic. Jumped sooo much though especially when you can hear what's going on in the lift but can't see it, then the lights come back on and omfg ew I'd recommend it, plus one of the guys stuck in the lift called Tony was hot ;D
