Default Blue to represent the UK in Eurovision

*sigh*

Quote:
Blue have been revealed as the act representing the UK at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Dusseldorf.

The reunited boyband were confirmed to have been chosen by the BBC in a statement made on the corporation's official Eurovision Twitter page. They will perform a new self-penned song entitled 'I Can', with the track's promotion and recording also being filmed as part of a BBC documentary to be screened in April.

BBC Head of Entertainment and Events Katie Taylor commented: "We're enormously pleased to have found an act that not only meets but exceeds all the criteria for a great entry. Blue are the perfect choice and we're so proud to have them representing us at this year's Eurovision Song Contest."

Band member Duncan James also revealed his excitement on Twitter, saying: "Yes the rumour r true!! We r representing the uk in this yrs EUROVISION! We r really excited and cant wait till u hear the song!! ITS BIG!!! (sic)."

The group have previous links to the contest, as Antony Costa came second in the 2006 edition of Eurovision song selection show Making Your Mind Up with 'It's A Beautiful Thing'. Duncan James was also part of the judging panel on the show's successor Eurovision: Your Country Needs You in 2009.

Blue originally formed in 2001 and had a string of top ten hits in the UK, including 'All Rise', 'One Love' and 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word', a duet with Elton John, before splitting in 2005.

The final of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 14.

There are plenty of other british artists 10 times better than them.

Florence + The Machine are just one of many examples.

If they wanted to have a successful comeback, they've made a mistake doing this.

Course there are but they're not willing to do it, Eurovision has become such a joke now that we just send in a gimmicky act every year - Daz Sampson, Scooch, Andy Abraham etc. We tried for one year and did pretty well with Jade Ewan but then I guess we couldnt be bothered next year and just put in another nobody who did crap, at least Blue have actually had a fair bit of success

I disagree; Jade Ewen was looking set to do alright and then joined the Sugababes which was a pretty smart career move; you have to bear in mind that while no other recent UK Eurovision entry has done well off the back of it - none of them did that well taking part in it, and were meant to be gimmick acts in the first place. Blue should do well if they have a good enough song, I browsed Wikipedia and they did have some success across Europe so people will remember them and might be more inclined to vote for them. I'm quite excited now!

We did well with Jade because she put the effort in to go travel round Europe to promote herself a bit, to the extent that she was more well known around Europe than she was in the UK prior to Eurovision, which is exactly what you need in a Eurovision entry because we can't vote for our own act. If Blue remind people in Europe they're still out there and have an alright song, they'll do well for sure.

Oh I didnt realise she'd done that, it was amazing how we went from being right down at the bottom for years up to fifth, I've heard Blue have been or are going to do a fair bit of promotion around Europe so they could easily do quite well

Not a big fan of Blue but if they can give us at least a chance of winning Eurovision then I am all for them

Yep.. Jade Ewen came 5th in Eurovision I think it was a few years ago.

Blue could possibly get into the top 5 too! Good luck to them. I hope the song's good!

I hope Jedward represent Ireland too. Would be epic. I also agree that they have to promote themselves all around Europe before May 14th.
