Default UK Soldier Jailed For Bayonetting Afghan Boy

Quote:

..A British solider has been jailed for stabbing a 10-year-old Afghan boy while in Helmand Province, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.

Grenadier Guardsman Daniel Crook was sent to military prison for 18 months for bayoneting Ghulam Nabi, the MoD said.

Crook had been drinking heavily the night before he attacked the boy, who was running an errand.

The evening before the incident, in March last year, Crook had to be treated by medics after drinking a "considerable quantity of vodka", his court martial hearing was told.

The next day his unit left a checkpoint in the Nad e Ali district to go on patrol. Crook followed, arming himself with two grenades and a bayonet because his rifle had been confiscated as a safety measure.

He came across two Afghans riding bikes - one of them was Ghulam, who had been sent out to collect a bottle of yoghurt.

According to prosecutors, the child had pestered Crook for chocolate. In response, the shamed soldier "took hold of the boy's shoulder and stabbed him in the region of his kidneys with his bayonet".

Afterwards, Crook caught up with the patrol and admitted he had stabbed the child. When questioned by military police he could not explain why he stabbed the boy.

At the court martial in June, Crook was jailed and dismissed from the Army.

The boy's father Haji Shah Zada, 72, told The Guardian he cannot understand why his son was attacked and has received no apology from the British forces.

The shopkeeper and farmer told the newspaper his son is still suffering and has not yet been back to school.

He said British forces were "in Afghanistan to build the country and remove insurgents, not to stab a child".

An MoD spokesman said: "Protecting the Afghan civilian population is one of ISAF and the UK's top priorities.

"All British troops undergo comprehensive training on the strict rules of engagement that UK forces and ISAF operate under. Any allegations of infringements of these rules of engagement are investigated thoroughly.

"Those who are found to fall short of the Army's high standards or who are found to have committed an offence are dealt with administratively - up to and including discharge - or through the discipline process, as appropriate."

Got to love it, couldnt have a rifle but could have a couple of hand grenades.

Nah he will spend at least half that in Colchester, which is the Military Corrective Training Centre.

It really isnt a nice place, up at sparrow fart clean you cell and lay out all your kit for an inspection, it gets ripped up so you lay it out again and hope there is still time for breakfast.

After breakfast some lectures and the like. then more cleaning oh and a run designed to cripple you. Lunch, then a few more lectures, more painful physical training, more endless cleaning etc, then tea.

After tea and chores you get an hour or two for letter letter and recreation then you get locked up in your cell, to repair kit and get it ready for the next day.

I think you get slightly less to do on a Sunday, oh and you can go say prayer with the god squad if you are inclined, most do gets them off the regime for another hour.

Great fun, a week of that is like a year in civi nick.

Doesnt mention being discharged as part of his punishment but they may decide to bin him while he is inside, if they do about halfway through his punishment he may get transferred to a civi nick, at that point they go on how much time he has left and work out remission and early release on the rest of his sentence.

If he is being kept in all time in MCTC count towards early release, provided he has been a good boy.

I think 18 months is too short, no matter where he is being held.

He stabbed a defenceless 10 year old boy, in fact a boy he should have been protecting overall,I would have given him at least 5 years unless there is some mental problem he has.
Then I would have wanted him held for therapy and treatment for at least 3 years and then only released on the condition his Doctors felt he would be no further risk to anyone anywhere let alone Afghan children.

And what do US troops have to do with this?? Again, people wonder why i'm responding against epople trying to smear the USA, and my posts get censored.

But this post basically saying., OH let's not pay attention to this UK troop doing something wrong, let's instead talk about US troops.

WTF.

Where are the mods telling this person not to make this about US vs. UK?? funny how it's only me....
