Default Stores 'ashamed' to sell religious cards... but obscene ones litter the High Street

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...gh-street.html

I wouldn't exactly say that they 'litter the high street' that seems a bit of an exaggeration but it is probably not a good sign for the world when this happens.

Supermarkets are usually quite mercinary and will sell whatever people buy most of, I would say its more likely that the demand for religious cards has decreased. 70% of the population may well be christian, but it will be to varying degrees and doesn't necessarily mean they will buy religious cards

Nothing more than basic economics. Demand = supply.

That's the way it is: that's what people demand these days, that's what they get.

...I was going to say pretty much the same...my boss is a good example, she's a devout Chriistian...I showed her a selection of cards, of which there were some religious ones and asked her which one she wanted to send out...she didn't chose the religious ones...whether it's a sad fact or not, it is a fact

What struck me was the contrast between the two, religious to obscene it seems to have gone from from one extreme to another

The world is obscene now - surely you cannot just have noticed the shift? Morals are pretty thin on the ground these days - never mind expecting an upsurge in religious greetings cards.

You didn't ask whether it should be right or not or what made it right or not.

I gave an explanation as to why it is what it is: If you don't want discussion on it, why create the thread?

The thread isn't about me. It's about religious cards being in short supply and stores being ashamed to sell them......isn't it.

Religion is far more obscene than a rude sentiment on a card.
Religion is the cause of death of millions of people around the world every year!! how many people died as a result of a rude card???

Religion has had thousands of years to cause all those deaths but rude cards have only had a few years to do the same damage.

See your posts above.

Bobnot has got it spot on. How many people died because of a rude / obscene greetings card......unless it was from dying laughing.

Meh Christmas is more secular and commercial now than it is religious anyway, and tbh a lot of Christmas traditions aren't even really Christian

They're not really obscene though, just tongue in cheek

The statistics speak for themselves, if people aren't buying them then the supermarkets won't stock them. Its just bad business sense.

Typical Daily Mail rubbish, I'm surprised they didn't try to fit in a jab at muslims somewhere in that article. I've never seen nor been given a religious christmas card ever, for a lot of people Christmas isn't about religion it's about comercialism so it's no surprise to see that supermarkets don't opt to sell many religious themed cards because they probably don't sell that well in comparison to the more secular type of cards.

That article is terrible though, typical stirring nonsense from a paper made only to enrage gullible idiots.
