Default Do you judge people on the road by the car they drive?

I'll admit anytime I see a Nissan Micra or a Toyota Yaris ahead of me I automatically groan and expect a really slow and annoying driver in them..........9 times out of 10 I'm right as well

Do you ever make these kind of assumptions about certain cars?

***Inspired by Ammis thread***

Whenever i see a young person in a nice car i assume that either their parents are rich and bought it for them, or they are leasing it, and making ridiculous payments on it that could be better spent on other things.

I don't have much respect for either.

no one under 30 should be driving anything that isn't at least 5 years old. imho.

..hmm, no not really but maybe sometimes in that I do genuinely believe that a lot of people who drive 'certain cars' drive in a 'certain' and maybe arrogant way..is that what you mean..?...

..yeah that's true..I think some would actually drive you off the road and kill you if they felt 'aggrieved' in some way...and it doesn't take a lot to aggrieve them...

Yes, because its true as I have just said in the other driving thread. If you see someone driving an executive type car BMW/Merc etc. its pretty much nailed on that they are going to be an arrogant bastard who thinks he/she owns the road and you have to get out of their way.

If you're waiting to be let out and there is a Micra or a Yaris etc. they will ALWAYS let you out.

Thankfully because it's a nightmare being stuck behind them (apologies to my mother who's a Yaris driver)

I actually bought and used to drive one of the new style Micras. I bought it specifically because it was the least 'cool' car I had ever seen. I used to refer to it as my anti-chav mobile.

The way you get treated just because of the car you drive is quite an eye opener. I was once driving minding my own business and was chased by a load of young boys in one of those fast and furious type cars who hurled abuse at me, threw things at my car and basically tried to intimidate me for about 5 miles. They completely failed to realise there was a 16 stone bloke behind the wheel with a crowbar underneath the seat and an ex con in the passenger seat. It was quite amusing when I purposely pulled over and they parked behind me laughing and the ex con friend of mine got out wielding the crowbar.

I know those things are fast but I doubt that car had gone that fast before or since.

OMG :/ It is true though that people treat you differently on the road according to the car you're driving. My car was in the garage for something one time and my mechanic let me borrow a car he had while mine was getting fixed, I can't even remember the type it was but it was tiny, smaller than a micra. But yeah, I could feel straight away that people instantly wanted to over take me (eventhough I wasn't driving slow)

I go by what the driver is wearing on his head, if it's a Baseball Cap then invariably it is a "Boy Racer" and I don't expect any signals as to what he will do next (they are ALWAYS male!)

If you can't see the driver and he can't see over the steering wheel, you are in Canada and the car is being driven by a recent immigrant from Asia, in which case "Boy Racer" comments apply.

I drive a BMW and I always let people out - only one mind - if there are 2 cars waiting to get out, I only let the first one go.

I used to drive a Mercedes too - a cute little two seater job, it was a works car and the grief I used to get driving it was unreal........it was one of these:

It was worst in the snow....kids thinks its hilarious to chuck snowballs at you, it was a left hand drive too and I had the window open once and got hit square in the face

My comment was partly tongue in cheek, I bought my current car a fiesta ST brand new, and I have access through other family members to - A Maserati, a Merc and a Jag.

I am anything but jealous.
