Default Glasgow: IKEA recalls children's lamp after a 17month baby chokes to death

The lamp of death

[Furniture giant IKEA has recalled millions
of children's lamps after a 17-month-old baby
choked on the light's cord and died.
Daniel Madden, from Glasgow, became
tangled up in the power cable of the
lamp - part of the 'SMILA' series - after pulling it
into his crib in October last year.
He was taken to the city's Royal
Hospital for Sick Children, but could
not be revived by doctors.]

[A staggering 23million 'SMILA' lamps
have been recalled by Swedish retailer
Baby Daniel Madden, from Glasgow,
choked on the light's cord and died
Another child was nearly strangled
to death after pulling cable into crib]

Don't really see how it's Ikea's fault, just a tragic accident that could happen with anything

Its their Design (hence the massive withdraw)

Says they've been selling it since 1999, that's nearly 15 years with presumably no problems till now

I'm a bit surprised anything for a childs room is supplied corded, an on/off switch is safer but this was just a tragic accident.
I've just put some blinds from ikea up and there's a special hook and a huge warning label about the cord on it.
