Well, there's dyslexia and there's plain ignorance... Alicia is dyslexic.

Ive never heard that she has dyslexia and even if she does, it doesnt make you completely stupid, I know two people who are, and one of them earns a hell of a lot more than me as a language tutor, so thats bollocks, she is stupid about EVERYTHING, even in her reaction to being nominated and not being saved by Katie Price

I am far from stupid and I post stuff on here as I see it. I KNOW what it is but there was something in the way Alicia was talking tonight that didn't ring true to me. She was kind of smiling and looking all coy when she was talking about not knowing her alphabet or shapes. I think she may very well be playing an act. My opinion which I am more than entitled to thank you. I have close friends who are dyslexic. Some of the most brilliant actors and actresses in Hollywood are as are some of the best business people in the world so it doesn't hold you back.

I think Alicia is putting on an act.

Another attempt to persuade the others not to nominate her was Alicia saying she couldn't even afford to pay for her youngest child to go to school. As said child is only 3 years old the question of schooling isn't applicable yet. When she is old enough, if Alicia still hasn't found another rich bloke to latch onto, there is always state school, which is free.
Her comment about rather being dead than not having her tits was utterly tasteless when you think of all the women who have to have breasts removed because of cancer.

Would you mock someone with a disability ? Oh hang on a minute, you just did!

Alicia struggles bless her. Its been clear from early on that Alicia has learning difficulties. She struggles with people lying and she struggles with meanness because that goes beyond her comprehension. That btw isn't her fault. Alicia scrapes by but she is like a child trapped in an adult body and no doubt she's been challenged all of her adult life thus far.

As for Alicia having dyslexia, she probably does and it likely confounds other learning problems that are a separate issue or ones that are linked directly to her dyslexia. Every dyslexic is as unique as a fingerprint. There are many types of dyslexia, some not as challenging as others. There are conditions like Dyspraxia that sometimes go hand in hand with dyslexia. What we can't d with dyslexia is compare one persons success with another persons failure.

Well said, if I read another post along the lines of "I know someone who is dyslexic and they can do x" I will smash my screen, I thought we were a bit more enlightened about disability in this day and age, seems not.

I very much doubt that there is that much enlightenment around - a lot of people can't be bothered unless they have a personal reason to find out about things.

Funny how her father didn't get included in the title of the thread? Did he abandon her or something?

Cherie, I have trauma induced dyslexia. I was knocked off my bike in London and took some serious head trauma. I was at Uni at the time but had to leave because I suddenly lost the ability to keep up with my studies. My dyslexia affects my short term memory and I have difficulty with comprehension which makes cramming, something I used to be good at, impossible.

The one thing I learnt from my accident is, its really tough having learning difficulties, not because there isn't the right help but because many people presume that you are thick. Its certainly a word that frustrates me.

I think Alicia is clearly embarrassed by her lack of knowledge.
And if you are sharing a house with someone like Katie H who looks down on you anyway then it must be tough.
Katie mocking her & telling others is a really cruel thing to do.
It is NOT Alicia's fault she has not been provided with the right education or help.
Katie H has had a good upbringing & good opportunities.
If someone like Alicia confided something like that to me I would show sympathy & understanding rather than use it as comedy for others.
Those who are saying Alicia was laughing as she wad saying it, does it ever occur to you that she is embarrassed yet still tried to open up to Katie H, who she thought was being understanding but in truth was just using it for her own amusement.

Calum a few days ago regretted that he got so little time with his dad, saying, if I remember correctly, that he only got to kick a football around with him when there was a photoshoot.
So who deserves the criticism here, Alicia who appears to be doing her best to be a good mother, or Calums' parent, a drunken womaniser.

You'd think by the way Alicia acts she's grown up in some sort of fairy-tale fantasy land. I think at a young age she preferred some quick cash to learning. The stuff she comes out with is just plain weird.

Default Skin deep

From what I've read, there was abuse in her childhood (not sure if mental/physical). She left home at 14. She'd been privately educated. She obviously suffers with severe Body Dysmorphic Disorder. No, that does not mean she is vain - far from it. From articles, it seems her dad used to call her ugly (gawd knows what else was said/done). Obviously did not have a very happy or nice upbringing - and the scars are there for all to see.

Some people like Katie H only see the surface of a person and label them 'thick'. It didn't take any more than basic psychology for me to see that there was more to it than that. She obviously looks for approval from men and will never be entirely comfortable in her own skin. She even changed her name.

Despite all that, no, it does not mean she is 'mentally unstable'. She obviously has issues but that does not mean she can't be a good mother. Sounds to me like she's doing the absolute best she can to ensure her children don't have the life she had, and that she educates them to the best of her ability - before the youngest is even 4. More than what a lot of parents bother doing.

If you have no idea where 'people like her come from' then you are one extremely lucky person.
