A person who has a martyr complex, sometimes associated with the term victim complex, desires the feeling of being a martyr for his/her own sake, seeking out suffering or persecution because it either feeds a psychological need, or a desire to avoid responsibility.

In response to the OP, I think those offended by such an uncommon and silly phrase may want to look inward for a while.

So you have a problem with this term yet you're acting like you're its personal marketing agent, making people aware of it who had not and probably would not have ever heard it and definitely weren't using it. I had never even heard this term before and you're still the only person who seems to be using it.

Rise above petty and trivial things and spend your time on things that really matter and can make a difference to people instead of adding fuel to the fire. This wasn't even a fire on this site until you lit it.
