I went out to a restuarant with a few friends today. I was wearing a baseball cap, plain white t-shirt, flannel shirt tied around my waist and some ripped jeans. Anyway, whilst waiting for our table in the restaurant, a waitress walked passed and asked me to remove my baseball cap. I said I didn't want to (I hadn't done my hair which was the whole reason I wore the cap) and she said we would have to be seated outside then so we did sit outside (my party were more than happy to join me).
Would you wear a baseball cap to a restaurant?

I don't wear baseball caps but I don't think it's an issue at all. Why did she want you to remove your hat? It's a restaurant not a fashion show
![]() If it's sunny outside and I'm wearing sunglasses I sometimes just leave them on when I go into shops or restaurants, some people think that's weird but I don't know why they care. If they don't like wearing specific things indoors then don't, other people can do what they like. Last edited by TaylorCallum; 07-07-2017 at 06:34 PM. |

Times change. I think it'll be a generation opinion divide. Nowadays in lectures/meetings loads of people wear hats in doors, in classes also. Whereas I think people from different ages will have learnt wearing hats indoors is rude, whereas for younger people it's not seen like that.
I can understand if the restaurant was posh/classy though.

![]() Just some spoons knock off. Meal and a drink for like Ł6. It's classy in the evening though. Quote:
It's got cheap offers on in the day (when I went) but it's a classy restaurant and bar in the evening. I didn't kick up a fuss I just said I didn't want to remove my cap and so she seated us outside.

Its about standards
I dont think, for example, GMB should allow any person on their sofa in sunglasses. (hello the "Jacksons") also rude People should not be served in a restaurant with no top on you draw a line and stick to it this is Britain |

I wore one in an exam and was asked to take it off (which is understandable) but if it was in a Restaurant I'd take my money elsewhere. Would they ask you to remove a Burkha, Hijab, or a Niqab?

Too glam to give a damn

Well, I see how you could get away with it at McDonalds, but if it was a nice restaurant then it only makes sense for you to be asked to take it off.

Does it really matter if you wear a hat or not? I don't think so, unless it's a fancy restaurant. Otherwise no one cares.

In your opinion and the way you've been accustomed to. I haven't been accustomed to that but I have manners. A tad rude to suggest I don't have them just because of a fashion choice.

Another stupid "rule" that actually makes zero sense. Why is it rude? Nonsense, you wear whatever you want my love

Depends on the restaurant I was away recently with my sons they both wore baseball caps as neither had got their hair cut before we went, It used to be considered rude but like elbows on tables we are not in the 1950s and as long as the place hasn't got a dress code I don't see the issue
