Exclamation Spider alert Ireland!!

Approximately ten species of Irish spiders have fangs large enough to bite through human skin

Homes set to be invaded by thousands of spiders — including the pain-inducing
false widow — as mating season kicks off across the UK

  • Mating season for our eight-legged friends begins in early September each year
  • Running to early October, the time will see more spiders come out into the open
  • Male spiders are the ones most commonly spotted as they look for females
  • Arachnophobes fear not, mind — most of the UK's spiders are quite harmless
  • However, there exceptions, notably the so-called 'noble false widow spider'
  • On the rise in the UK, this arachnid's bite can cause serious pain and swellin
