Its imperative to give clear advice on what you want as a gift and then get that if it is reasonably within budget. Getting folk presents on a whim leads to all the crap that litters auctions in Jan and Feb

I get the children what they want with no surprises and the same with the TL

But if I want something I just go and buy it myself... why wait until Christmas and waste half a tree wrapping something you know you are getting? She could have got that for you in November and you would have had the use of it a month earlier
