They're up here in Norfolk with me now. Well, not with me, but a ten minute walk away, five if you cut across a field, about as far removed from east London as you can get. We hardly ever go back to London now, which is sad, generations of my Dad's family lived in the same street in East Ham. It was a decent working class street, like a village really, and there were people from all over, Caribbean, India, Sri Lanka, Cyprus, Poland... it was a nice mix of good people. Now it's full of people walking around with machetes, selling drugs and not speaking English.
