Default I have a question about the UK.
What is the UK exactly?

Are Britain, Ireland, Scotland and Wales part of the same country and separated like states in the US? Or are they separate nations altogether?

Example New York, Maryland, California are states that make the USA.

I'm pretty confused about that.
