Yeah, DC is right on this one. Most stars that make up the galaxies in that picture have a lifespan shorter than the time it is has taken for the light to reach us.
The star Betelgeuse in the initial animation is said to be near the end of its life and has been observed to be shrinking recently. It could go supernova and explode soon, might have already happened.
