But why is Joel getting called out on his religion?

Adjoa and Cristian (hence name change) are also Christians and have spoken more about their faith. Adjoa's father is pastor and she's very involved in her church. Adjoa also defended her religion when Kieran mocked it, in fact Keiran turned to Cristian for back up but he shock his head as he is a christian himself.

Cristian more or less prayed to thank God for sending Jack to save him from eviction, go on his twitter and see some of his rap pop videos and it's clear he is very religious, which isn't something people realise as he hides behind the whole rap image. He is is quietly socially conservative, and was horrified with Harry's nudity, far more than Joel is. Basically, attacking Joel for his faith and conservative (social) is unfair when Adjoa and Cristian are far more blatant about it.
