Default When did it all get so personal?

I'm sorry if this post comes across as demeaning or rude but I can't hold back what I think. I'm about to drag on a bit, so if you don't like reading, then just move on. (I'd ask that this forum doesn't get moved to the "chat" forum because I am referring to this forum only)

I have been lurking around different online forums for a long time, and I remember a time when forums were treated with care and responsibility. Forums were made as a discussion route, to discuss and debate, but notice that there is a difference in the words "discuss" and "argue". There are two types of people on this forum; those who take things personally, and those who get personal. I can't help but wonder, what's the need of all this? Why do people feel the need to fight for their point rather than debate it formally? People get so stuck in their ways that when someone tries to bring them out of it, they lash out and start getting personal with each other. Can I ask, what are you gaining from this? You're just losing care and credibility. It's exhausting reading through this forum and seeing comments which basically translate as "I'm right, you're wrong" every single time.

What I'm trying to say is, you don't have to fight someone just because they have a different opinion to you. Isn't it better to be impartial and see both sides to an argument before you start raging? Put yourself in their shoes, try to see things from a different perspective other than your own and then proceed to debate. We all like and dislike different things, so it's heavily important that you don't dismiss someone else just because their different. We're all different. The way we act sometimes is frankly awful and I won't say that I'm an angel in that aspect either. I'm not saying that we shouldn't argue, but sometimes you need to draw the line in how you react during an argument because I find it exhausting and upsetting to read.

Once again, sorry if this offends you in any way. This doesn't apply to everyone and I'm certainly not excusing myself from this either.
