Twenty people have been injured after a double-decker bus had its roof ripped off in a collision with a railway bridge.
Eleven people were taken to hospital with minor injuries, while several sustained "serious facial injuries" - including a man in his 20s with a broken jaw. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were called to the scene on Milkstone Road, Rochdale, at 12.27pm. The force said a man and woman had sustained "serious facial injuries". "I was sat at the bottom deck, at the back, so all the glass from the back window smashed onto us," said passenger Daisy Murphy. "My friend ... has got cuts all up her hand and her leg's pretty sore. She can't walk on one of her legs. Quite a few people came out pretty bad. "Obviously it's a shock - we saw that the roof of the bus was on the floor so everyone was a bit hysterical." Teresa Broxton, managing director of First Manchester, said: "At this time our primary focus is to assist customers and staff involved. Staff from First in Manchester are providing support to the emergency services at the scene. "We will provide whatever additional resources we can." A spokesman for First dismissed reports that it had been the driver's first day on the job. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/many-hurt-...l?vp=1#XibtEfP |
