Default Is it OK or not to state wildly ridiculous made up things about public figures,or not

Discuss. Debate. Be serious about, etc.

I ask this because I received a warning for posting a well researched and to my knowledge 100% accurate thread about David Cameron being a robot joint of ham controlled by vegan activists (it was in the news yesterday, I just can't find the link right now) and yet, it seems to be perfectly ok for people to post wild, hysterical, nonsense-based statements about other politicians without a word being said about it .

So I'm wondering: hypothetically, where is the line drawn?
