Default Ariana's Fiancée makes joke referencing Manchester Attack (Ari responds)

Quote:
Ariana Grande's fiancé Pete Davidson joked about the Manchester Arena terror attack in an on-stage stand-up routine last year, it has emerged.

On May 22 last year, a terrorist detonated a bomb in the lobby of the arena after Grande had performed, claiming the lives of 22 people.

Referencing the incident, Davidson joked at a gig that Grande must know how famous she is "because Britney Spears didn't have a terrorist attack at her concert".

The Saturday Night Live star – who lost his firefighter father on September 11, 2001 and has drawn on the family tragedy in his comedy sets – has now responded to the backlash about the Manchester joke.

His representative told Metro: "He is a comedian. No subject is off limits and that includes jokes about his father and 9/11."

divorce incoming then, if Ariana really cares about the victims and survivors of this attack she would divorce him for this disgusting ''joke''

Definitely not funny and an 'iffy' choice of topic.

It's a ham-fisted attempt at "highly controversial" humour - which VERY few comedians can pull off without it seeming tryhard and cynical. I doubt he's one of them.

Someone else who thinks nothing is off-limits where his comedy is concerned. It might have been better had it been funny, but I doubt it.

It’s crap and insensitive.But....i’d defend his right to make whatever jokes he wants(even if I don’t like them).Comedy is supposed to be one of the last bastions of free speech. It’s already been dumbed down alot with comedians scared of the Twitter reaction.

He's now engaged to Arianna Grande... you've got to expect people to pick up on what he said. I'm not one of those people who think that every subject is fair game as long as it's funny. If you're going to make a joke about an event where kids died, you're going to have to expect people to think you're a bit sick.

How do Livia

Well yeah,People have the right to say they think it’s sick or crap or whatevs.

I just see how scared everyone is now to say anything controversial incase they get their career ended and banned from TV channels/shows/events etc.
Free speech afterall is only really needed when something is said that we(or somebody)doesn’t like.

I'd defend his right to make the joke but I'd also question Arianna Grande's sincerity over her past reaction to what happened, if she didn't find this "joke" to be too much.

I mean, me and my wife joke about all sorts. Unsavoury aspects of our childhoods, horrible past arguments, even family deaths... BUT if one of us hosted an event where a load of children were injured and killed, I think that would probably be off limits for giggles .

[edit to add] I'm not saying she should leave him over it but I'd be surprised if she comes out in support of it.

She may have to break up with him for publicity’s sake anyway no matter what she actually thinks.Self preservation

Fake break up for 6 months until everyone's forgotten about it then get back together. No one will care. There'll be a new story about someone else by then.

If he was taking the piss out of the victims then maybe.

But he made a rather weak joke about her fame causing her to be a target.

Don't see the outrage.

Don't really understand the "outrage". The event did happen, he wasn't being disrespectful to victims. He was having a joke at Britney's expense, not the victims. Don't find the joke funny, but its not an outrage either

Correct

But much like the Lord Sugar tweet, I was waiting for a better punchline. This just isn't funny

He made the jokes last year before he began dating her and he also has joked about 9/11 before despite his father dying in it.

If he was mocking the victims in the humour I'd find it tasteless but as it is he hasn't.

People only bringing it up now or only taking offence now just because he's dating Grande now is rather sad imo.

Yeah was just going to say this, I mean it wasn't particularly funny but I don't think it's that distasteful either

Very easy to remove the gist of a joke from the actual telling of it and how it fit into a whole routine and say "oh gosh, so unfunny, so insensitive, wow".
