Of course there is an excuse Tom. I'm not going to reveal all my personal issues there who put me in that situation back in the day but there are excuses such as depression, the loss of someone, being very very down, body image issues etc... Some people will fall into drugs, some into alcoholism, etc... and some into food. I've got the fat gene, I didn't control it therefore couldn't avoid being obese, does that make it up for the issues I had ? Of course not. I didn't get fat because I wanted to, I got fat because I got addicted and it made me feel good (4 years) then you realize it does not anymore, the reverse is happening.

I'm not saying all obese people have psychological issues because some of them are lazy and you're right but obesity is a disease and has been declared one of the biggest disease of the decade along with cancer and AIDS.

If you don't want to be fat you'll do something about it no matter how addicted you are.

That's when you realize you are fat. You are that happy to eat that you don't even realize what is going on but the day people will mock you, you realize something is wrong so you eat more to forget about it. But one day, you somehow realize enough is enough and it's time to put it to an end. Then begins the diet.

What I'm trying to tell you is that, you don't just decide not to be fat anylonger, it doesn't work like that, you're stuck in the middle of something you don't control anymore. I'm only about people who have food addiction related to personal issues, not people who just eat for the sake of eating.
See, I still played rugby while I was obese but it didn't help much.

But if you don't realise that you're fat, when you do realise it and thats when you start the diet, then thats you doing something about it because you no longer want to be fat. You can decide, you can just put a stop to it and go on a diet. It might not be that simple for some people I understand but if you want it that badly you will do it.

You can put a stop at it when it's already way too late and when you're physically damaged by what's going on around. I remember how it happened for me, it was very emotional and my Dad told me "Son, if you want people to change the way they see you, give them something to be jealous about". It's the best advice I've ever been given and that's what made me go for a diet and become who I am today.
Unfortunately, some people don't ever get that kind of advice or "mental shock" to put an end to it. You just don't wake up and say "Oh wait, let's get a diet". You have to want it, otherwise you'll never get it.
You're right on one point, if you want it badly, you'll do it but you have to want it and to keep it up. That's the hardest part.
