I've noticed that in most (if not nearly all) anti-Dave threads, Daves supporters have a tendency to go way off topic .. entangling the discussions to such a degree that the real issue becomes 'fudged' and boring to follow.
I'm not accusing anybody... its just an observation.
This thread is a prime example .. its gone from a specific statement (joke or not) which Dave made, to the intricacies of where he would have got the 'material' or idea from .. isn't the issue whether he was right or wrong to say it in the first place?

I hope its more a case of stupidity or at the very least of being misguided, rather than perverted but then Dave has himself to blame if people do think the worst when he makes a statement which is (even as a 'joke') highly controversial.

Boring to follow? Don't you think it's interesting to hear all the other stuff that's posted? All the ideas and beliefs that people have? I've had some great discussions on here which have become organic and explored a subject to its roots. One of those conversations was with you.

He was probably wrong to say it in public, but you have to look at the context and how he meant it. Nothing is black and white, and there can never be yes/no answers for a question like this. In any case, wouldn't you find that dull?

In order to judge David you have to see where his ideas are coming from, he has, unlike other hms, posted lots of stuff on youtube.

Yes, I do love to explore things and very much enjoyed chatting with you recently .. you gave me a few things to mull over which was great.
The problem I have is that alot of these 'off topics' don't actually have much to do with the original issues raised.
The content of the 'off topic' today was uncomfortable reading, I realise that's just my 'problem' but added to that I didn't think it was even loosely connected to the ethics of making a disturbing remark (joke?) about his daughter.
In this instance, I think the context or how it was meant is irrelevant?

If only we could all keep out mouth shut and never say anything stupid. If only I could do that! We all say stupid things and in Dave's case this was definitely a stupid thing and I don't think that deserves him being called a pervert. I don't agree with Dave's religious convictions as you know, but the shtick he gets on here amounts to hysteria in some cases.

I agree that it doesn't make him a pervert but any fool knows that saying something like that is going way beyond the limit.
It may well have been a stupid moment for Dave but I have never once heard any of my friends or acquaintances (even at their most intoxicated, sober or attention-seeking) use their child ,in anything remotely as personal, as a subject for raising a laugh, .. Dave went way over the line.
I think that Dave deserves the feedback he gets to a degree, he seems to enjoy courting controversy, either that or he is a very slow learner.
I do agree that the flak thrown at Dave does go too far sometimes .. unfortunately he is leaving himself wide open for that type of thing every time he repeats these 'mistakes'.

He did go over the line, I'm not arguing about that. I'm sure once Dave knows the strength of feeling of some people, he'll be mortified. Everyone in that house makes mistakes and makes themselves look stupid. Just because he is -for the want of another phrase - "a man of God" it doesn't mean he's exempt from making a tit of himself.

But it may be true that if your husband said such a thing in a joking manner it would be awkward, not match your family humour, delivered poorly. It simply would come across wrong.

The truth is that Dave (and im no Dave fan) but he does have the sense of humour to say such things and it will be taken well by his family,
and,
inside the humour it is communicating what is a healthy sexuality inside his culture - the idea that sex is something saved for newlyweds at which time it becomes honourable and not something to be ashamed of.
