In this instance, I think the context or how it was meant is irrelevant?

If only we could all keep out mouth shut and never say anything stupid. If only I could do that! We all say stupid things and in Dave's case this was definitely a stupid thing and I don't think that deserves him being called a pervert. I don't agree with Dave's religious convictions as you know, but the shtick he gets on here amounts to hysteria in some cases.
