Amusing that you make yourself available for a UK forum then .... didn't your own forums want you? Or perhaps there aren't enough bridges in the country in which you reside? So many questions, not enough answers.

Telling people to go back to Nigeria (or whatever she was trying to say) isn't abuse? Okay then

I don't think many people on this thread realize this but if you do not have the freedom to say unpopular things, then you don't have freedom of speech at all. It's the unpopular speech that needs to be protected, not prosecuted. And people seem to differentiate saying racially unpopular things with unpopular things in general like they're two different things. Unpopular speech is unpopular speech whether it be about race, politics, religion.

The only reason why I keep going on and on about this is because the woman was arrested for doing relatively nothing. It's not her fault that people around her are so thin-skinned. The worst thing that should have happened to her is the train banning her for making their other customers uncomfortable. She certainly did not deserve to be arrested and CAN NOT BELIEVE people here agree that she should be behind bars.

Glad that you are able to establish that words such as 'racial equality' do belong together. Although I will say that the manner in which you have actually done so above, lends itself to suggesting stongly that you may not agree with racial equality. I'll ask that one to you: do you feel that one race should be allowed to abuse (verbally or otherwise) another?

Yeah I don't think saying "the Law says this so it is right" is much of an argument, and I also don't necessarily believe this is the sort of thing that should be dealt with by chucking her behind bars, it's more your disregard for the woman's racism that I find objectionable

Well given that it is regarded as racist - and it is unlawful to be so here in the UK , clearly the Law must be right to say so - otherwise one part of your statement contradicts the other. If it was not the Law, then there would be no need for anyone to regard, or disregard this woman's comments - as it would mean not a thing.

My statement doesn't contradict, I was just making a point regarding your dogmatic appeal to the law - because the laws say it is so, it must be so, and any opinion that goes against the law is therefore irrelevant

Oh dear... 'my dogmatic appeal to the law'.

I have to possibly state the obvious here: but given that the Law states a particular action or behaviour is unlawful or illegal - thems the terms that we have to abide by. Whether we agree with them or not.

That's not dogmatic. That's fact.

Where did I say that any opinion that goes against the law is therefore irrelevant. I have indicated nothing of the sort.

If someone says "she shouldn't be arrested" and states that as their opinion, it doesn't really matter whether the law agrees with it or not, they can still have that view

No need for the rolly eyes MTVN.

Where have I stated that no one can have a different view or is not allowed their opinion?

The key word in Liberty's post was "deserve", they were simply disagreeing with the law

They can disagree with the Law all they like, it makes no difference to the end result.

I will ask you again MTVN. Where did I state that someone's opinion was invalid or that they could not have a view.

in fact, I'll refer you back to this part of my own previous post:

People should be allowed to say what's on their minds, no matter how offensive it be. What do you have to say about Middle Eastern cultures where it's against the law to insult the prophet Muhammad or Islam? Should they be sent to prison? The law is the law afterall?

Now, as an outsider looking in, the sacred cow in the UK is race.

Urgh this is off-topic and be unnecessarily dragged out; I'm just saying that you can disagree with something being the law and you just saying "well you don't decide the law" in response isn't the best argument IMO

This is a thread about the UK and an incident that happened here.

It is not a thread about comparing legalities within or to other countries: as has been pointed out to you several pages ago - indeed, I even requoted MTVN's post to Lost Alex with regards to staying on topic.
