The intention of Obama was never to close the whole of Guantanamo, he is a politician, a common tactic is to make promises they know they wont be able to keep.

Theres an old saying that you can always tell when a politician is lying, their lips move.

Also for a man who you say has asked that other countries "take" the prisoners in Gitmo I find it very strange he would sign the 2011 Defence Authorisation Bill which actually prevents the transfer of Gitmo inmates either to the US maniland or overseas. Its a funny old world isnt it?

Didnt he also bring onto US statute a provision for the inmates to be held indefinately without trial?

Obviously you can't just drop then back into the"bomb belt" aka the middle east, they'd be recruited right back into being terrorists, which is how they got to Guantanamo to begin with. Obviously you'd have to give them to Australia, or the UK, or Germany or some other 1st world country for them to be rehabilittaded, and hopefully adapt to life in a western nation and give up their terrorist ways.

Where did you hear that he was planning of dumping them back in Afghanistan?

I never said it, nor did I imply it.

I pointed out that initially he wanted to transfer prisoners to mainland US prisons, or in some cases transfer them back to their countries of origin. Obviously only the ones that came from countries he would expect to keep them in detention.
